Hey guys, ive posted a message in the wanted section for a replacement my99 turbo gearbox and after a few replies ive just relised i dont have a clue what will fit and what wont! ie will a 96sti box fit a 99 uk etc? Any help is greatly recieved

if you want a really strong box and you are thinking of going for power upgrades go for a 6speed conversion

 

The different boxes will fit, but if yours is a UK model your front diff will be a 3.9:1 and you will have a 1.1:1 transfer box with the rear diff being 3.54:1. So if you get an import box, the front diff will need to be a 3.54:1 to match your rear diff as the drop gears have a 1:1 ratio. So basically any standard UK box should be a straight swap, if your getting an import box you will probably need the matching rear diff. To confuse matters even more there are different sizes of rear diff, R160 and R180. R160 is what your after on a standard UK car. R180's as far as I'm aware, are only found on STi Type R and Type RA cars. R180's are not a direct swap with an R160, without having matching shafts, hubs and brakes.
6 Speed as stated, is a good choice if your going for more torque in the future.
