rolling road not upto my beast!
hey all went to my rr today (bd engineering kent) and he couldnt get a proper reading cause it was trying to jump out of his rollers! he told me my sti was making 220bhp at the fly at 70mph and said he estimated approx 360 bhp, said it was the most powerful scooby he'd had lol! does that power sound right?
as far as i know its a standard tdo5, mapped 1.5bar, fmic, 3inch turbo back de-cat, its a jap sti2... i have no other history so its guess work!
on another note clutch started slipping on the way home! my subaru specialist (d&f in newington kent) reckons anything over 350hp needs forges, uprated bearings, cometic headgasket, uprated oilpump and said it would be easiest to do it while the block was out to do the clutch!
he said labour for the clutch is 300 as the block has to come out!
sound about right pricewise? cheers all justin

Doubtful that the rolling road isnt up to your power, could just be that your car is pushing 290bhp i have seen 500+bhp cars not slip on a rolling road, though I would be thinking that depending on your mods, your probably only running low 300's max....

I doubt it would be easier in a workshop, on your own drive perhaps.
It would take longer to disconnect all the ancillary parts before removing the block, than it would to remove the gearbox.

i changed the clutch myself 2 week or so ago and the block does not come out its acctually a pritty easy job, just drop the shafts mounts and a few other fings and the box will come of with out touching the engine.

TBH fella if the guy told you that he estimated that kind of power, it was to powerful for his rollers and you have to remove the engine to fit a clutch then its the sort of place i wouldnt be sending my car for work.

cheers all, the rolling road guy is a different fella to the rebuild fella! im guessing he never strapped it down, maybe he was making excuses! i thought about 320hp myself, dont think i'll be using him anymore!
as for the scooby specialist garage, the fella seems spot on! he said 300 labour, guessing thats dear? ive only had my scoob for a month so no pro! he's gonna give me a price for cossie 92mm forges, is it 'acr' bearings, cometic hg, 450hp clutch ( he told me he use's a 450hp clutch thats £380, told ,me the name but it slips my mind), uprated dragger oilpump... he said that would be a reliable bottom end for 380/400 hp?
i'll let you lot know what price he comes back with!

Take the car elsewhere. I hope you didn't have to pay for a guestimate bhp figure?
Clutch labour is usually around 3-4 hours, around £200 in real money.
Unless you have plans for much more power, leave the engine alone if all is well imho.

Had the same problem with my STi 6 on powersation rollers, who have probably seen plenty of big powered cars(mine was esitimated at running low 300bhp with the mods I had). Anyway my car couldnt get a proper reading as it kept slipping on the rollers.

yea it was 100 squid for a full health check + guesstimate lol, compression fueling ect! he said it was 220hp at 70mph tho ha, need to upgrade my contacts i thinks... ill def write the price of the build up for opinions and ask him y the engines gotta come out for the clutch too. cheers for all ya posts ppl, very helpful!
am hoping to build a high 300's car so anyone else with a forged bottom end build, one or for sale post here!

Did I read right that the scoob wasnt strapped down! If it was trying to jump out he should have moved the beds about to get it right, but still should have been strapped down (or at least have a couple of fat blokes in it). Thats what Richard does at Motoscope, and if it sits right you get a better reading of your power figures. No way would have paid £100 for a guessimate.

yea i know ive not got the fastest scooby around lol, when he said it almost jumped out im assuming he never strapped it... he mainly deals with classics, use him cause he's literally 5 min from my door and his road managed my 270hp mr2 jus dandy... he's obviously not experiensed in bigger power cars. . .
