Default Classic turbo Valuation advice

Hi All,

I am new to this site and I am in the process of looking at a classic original which is untouched.

I have come across the following car and would like some thoughts on values.

Subaru Impreza 2000 Turbo - 2000 X reg - 60,000 genuine miles.

The car has no known accident damage and was checked out by a local garage and I had an hpi report carried out on it ok.

It does not have a full service history, but has the following:

1112 miles - Subaru - 23/11/00
5755 - Subaru - 4/07/01
10583 - Subaru - 2/01/02
16140 - Subaru - 20/08/02
19741 - Subaru - 21/02/03
23658 - Subaru - 26/08/03
32011 - Subaru - 30/08/04
51341 - 18/01/07
56435 - 24/06/08
60506 - 30/11/09

Although the service history is not full, the previous owner is in his late
30's and worked as an engineer in the oil industry and told me he had
serviced it himself. It has had to have various things done to it in the last six months:

Genuine Subaru timing belt kit - receipt available and sticker in engine
with date of installation.
Fuel filler pipe replacement- Surprisingly expensive dealer only part!
Mot
Service
Filters changed
New spark plugs & leads
Air flow meter
Wipers
Brake pads and discs

Receipts are available for all of the above and were the best part of £1000.
The spark plugs and air flow meter etc was changed as the engine was
misfiring slightly.

The car has had three owners. It The previous owner bought the car in Nov
2004.

The car was professionally and fully valeted recently. When it came
back polished it showed up a small repair that has been done to the bodywork
above the fuel filler. In certain lights this can be seen and ideally I
would like it sorted out. I have a quote from a local bodyshop of £200 to
make it right. There are the odd stonechips and one of the alloys has a scuff mark on it. Otherwise the body is in
excellent condition. The Alloys have been repainted at some point in there life.

He is looking for around £3800 to £4000 which I think is ok but I would really value other expert opinions. Finally it has the body kit on it and quick shift box. Are these standard for this age of Impreza?

Thanks in advance and great site.

Cheers,

Deejay

Hmmm... Your going to get many opinions on this Deejay. There are not many 'original classics' around which are pretty much untouched. The value is what someone will pay for it at the end of the day! You can probably get a MY00 UK Turbo for under £2K, but it may be a bag of ****! I have a '99 UK Turbo with 50K miles and history, its still as it came from the factory (apart from H&S Exhaust) has many factory options (Leather,A/C,Sunroof,Prodrive suspension,Prodrive Q/Shift) and I'd want about £4K if I was selling, I would not sell for less, rather keep it! Sounds about spot on to me, but await the brigade with there opinions!

I suspect that it has had an accident around the fuel filler area .... fuel filler pipes are not an item which normally need replacing - unless damaged. May have been minor - may not have been.

Seems a reasonable car on the face of it - I would offer £3500, as I think that would be the fair price point.

Not sure what you mean by BodyKit? There are plenty of images on Google .... check there

I would expect it to have all it's old MOT's as the current owner has had it since it needed MOT's - use these to check the mileage.

Is it a Wagon or Saloon?

What colour?

Leather and Sunroof?

Air-Con?

Did the owner allow you to take the car to a bodyshop to get the quote?

Thanks for the reply. The fuel filler pipe was apprently corroded but agree that ther must have been a small accident at some point. I will check for old MOT's. The body kit is a Pro-drive body kit which was fitted at factory?
The car is a saloon, sunroof not leather or no Air-con. Yeah the owner let me go to the body shop with the car.
Any more advice guys would be great!

Seems like you may be onto a genuine example to be honest with you.

£3500 should be your offer, and it should be acceptable, then you need to get ready to smile all the time - they are great cars, and the Classic from 2000 MY are the very best of the breed.

Is there anything I should particulary look out for? I noticed a bit of rust around the interior of the tailgate where the spoiler was attached. Nothing much really.

The rust will be the attaching bracket I imagine? If so, nowt to worry about ... the spoiler itself is plastic!

The only things which should make you run away are any modifications ... KockLinks, Boost Gauges, Neon Lights, Induction Kits (these destroy MAF's), Re-Maps, Gold Wheels and Pimp Tints ...... but, from what you say, the owner seems pretty sensible so wouldn't expect any of that rubbish on it.

Looks good to me. Are those driving lights instead of the foglights?

Looks a clean example, get it snapped up! (If you are sure its mechanically sound). There is no Prodrive bodykit fitted in the pictures. The rear spoiler will not have been standard (may have been factory option?) It also has the 'overiders' behind the front wheels and in front of the rear wheels, I'm sure these are not standard on UK spec cars, only jap spec had these. I know mirrors/door handles were colour coded on MY2000 cars, but not sure about sideskirts?

Strong money for a turbo 2000. Is that a towbar i can see? The spats dont come colour coded on any of them AFAIK. Entirely reasonable that the filler pipe has rusted through given its location.

Spats standard just on a MY2000 car?? I can tell you they are not standard on a MY99! I know 100%. I thought only difference between MY99 & MY2000 was colour coding on handles/mirrors??

Hi Guys - I have agreed £3500!

I just need to sort out some insurance so I can drive it away..!

Do you know if a 10 year old Skooby will qualify as classic car insurance or will I need to insure myself normally. Any ideas on good deals.

Nice work Deejay, don't think you,ll get away with classic insurance there are a few people to try, all the normal car insurance avenues, plus the likes of SKy insurance, A-plan & Keith Micheals to name a few. Have a good shop around before you commit to any!

Thought so 'Scooby, my mate had a MY97 brand new back in the day, and I had a jap WRX back then, he actually bought a set of spats from the dealer after seeing mine! Must have had more money than sense at that sort of price! PS: What's an ice light?

Excellent Buy!!

£3500 is a fair price .... you will love it!!

That's seriously cheap money for what you get, isn't it?

Insurance, well just go confused.com .... declare the bodykit.

Let's sort this spats thing out.

By spats I presume you are referring to the extra bits of plastic over the standard skirts that you can see just behind each of the wheels.

They have never been standard on any UK classic and frankly I think they look tacky and spoil the lines of the car. They are supposed to prevent stone chips on the skirt and side of the car, but I dubt they do much good really and probably just end up chipped themselves.

The skirts they are sat over are standard on UK Turbos and were never colour coded as far as I can remember.

The 2000MY had colour coded mirrors and door handles as standard that the 99 did not.

A lot of people had the skirts colour coded prior to taking delivery and many more afterwards as they look much better in the body colour.

Nice one Mr Jones .

Try Admiral for insurance.....us old gits seem to get low quotes for Imprezas with them.
I'm only £250 fully comp protected with the wife as named driver and my exhaust mod declared .

Give me a call when you get it and I'll pop over and say hi and have a look round it at the same time.

How do you think the car will be compared to my other car? Mark 5 Golf Gti? I think the Golf is fantastic but a little bit to refined? I am sure the Subaru will not be so refined!
Other car pictured also on www.limetreeshouse.co.uk
