Default Wearing noise from rear Blobeye.

I have noticed a wearing noise from the rear end ever since I have had the car, is this normal as its AWD. I took it to the dealer last week from where a bought it from and they said they have checked everything and nothings wrong. I dont know as this is the only imprezza I have had.

Does Mrs Bos sit in the back whilst you're driving?

There shouldn't be any strange 'wearing' noises. Did you take the mechanic out for a drive so that he could hear the noise you were on about?
Does your car have mud flaps? perhaps if they've checked the car whilst it's stationary they wouldn't have picked up the fact something was rubbing.

When I took the car in it was raining and the roads were wet, it would have been hard to pick up the noise. I think im going to book it back in.
So are you saying that there is no noise at all on the rear diff./wheels/boot area when driving coming into the cabin?

Maybe I should have said whuring sorry I cant spell what I`m trying to explain. It sounds like as if a wheel bearing was on its way out, but hasnt got any worst or when turning left or right the noise stays the same.So not a wheel bearing i think.

When the wheel bearings went on mine, there wasn't any play in them, just a shed load of whirring/humming coming from the back - they were utterly shagged.

Does the noise get louder at 40 & still happen if you coast along in neutral?

Yes DJ_Jon exactly that, dont notice much when round town but as soon as you get a straight run you notice it, and yes I have taken it out of gear and coasted and the noise is still there. Didnt think it could be a wheel bearing, but prove me wrong.

Tyre noise can be quite loud dependant upon what tyres you have, when I bought my car 3 years ago from a dealer I noticed a bit of noise from the rear, they checked it all out before I bought it and stated that it was in fact the tyres, had no issues in 3 years so can only presume they are right as I doubt a subaru dealer would cut corners. Also when road is wet the noise would be less than on a dry road,
