Subaru Impeza Key - 2000 classic model
I have recently purchased my Subaru Impreza 2000 classic shape.
There was only one key with the car but two remote fobs. The previous owner said that he hadnt bothered getting another key because they wanted £70. Is this correct? Can I just get any key cut or is there a chip in the key or something?
Cheers, Deejay

Hi yes key is chipped £70 not bad I have just been quoted £230 for an 01 wrx from dealer
If you get a blade cut from you local key cutter same key blank as a Nissan it will allow you to open door turn on ignition take off steering lock and importantly allow an auto locksmith access the ECU to reprogram a chip in if ever needed
If you loose the only key it will take an auto locksmith hours to pick remove strip and decode lock before he can cut a key to program
To sum up cars upto 2000 are clonable £70 not bad
cars 2000 on need programing diagnosticly looking at about £150+ remote which you could programe your self with key pad remotes are about £40 main dealer
hope this help deffinetly get a blade cut about £10 could save you loads

My 2000 Classic has a red light 'key' which flashes on the dash ... I assume this is a Subaru immobiliser? Operated by the key maybe?
The fob is a Sigma fob marked as Subaru, the aftermarket fitment for the UK market.
So, not sure if the key has something fancy - or is just a simple key which can be cut for £5?

Hi normaly your fob is a cat 1 imobliser uk fit
Then you have standard Subaru chipped key you could look around ignition switch for a plastic pick up coil around key hole under cowl or any local key cutter should be able to read the chip and tell you if it's clonable

I got the same problem here aswell - Uk turbo (my00) and only 1 key! I have an aftermarket alarm and use the fob to open the doors and I think this turns the immobiliser off also.
Sorry for bein thick but i dont understand whats bein said? Do I jus need to get a key cut or do i need to go to a specialist and get a coded key cut?
Thanks

Hi no problem for a key to start the car it needs programing
but a blade only will save hours of work if you loose the key so it can then be programed
the remote side of it on Subarus is always an after market fit to keep your insurance low
Insurance on imports is so much higher becouse they are easier to nick
Hope this helps

I've got the same thing on my '97 WRX one key 2 fobs... the fobs are for my laserline alarm/immob though which was obviously fitted as an aftermarket modification.
The one key is have looks to me, just like a key... so can I just have the blade of the key cut and that would allow me access to the car and to start it, obviously after using the fob to disarm the alarm/immob??
Cheers
