This has probably been suggested before...
Why not modify the user profiles to include a "Type of car/Scoob owned/driven" field.
Then we'll know a bit more about who we're talking to. Should also put a stop to the "what kind of car do you drive / roll call" threads.
Make it an optional field for the paranoid among us..

Excellent idea. All for it. Dont suppose some people will be though. Those that dont drive scoobs might be a bit put out by this but so what. They might go off to somewhere else like the RSOC or something. Good riddance I say.

Chip, I've got a Fiesta, big deal, it's not like admitting you sleep with dead goats is it? I love my car, It's great, equally I'd love a scooby though I can't afford one just at the moment but why should this stop me coming here? I've been to the RSOC board and I much prefer it here and I'd like to stay if that's allright?

I don't own a Scooby. Would you like me to leave?

I don't think anyone really takes offence if you forget his/her name.
At the end of the day we know each other more by the cars we drive than anything else.
Putting the type of car you drive in the header is ok, but what about those of us who spread the enjoyment over more than one vehicle.

Chip,
I don't wish to pick a fight, but like Paul, I also saw your comments on your other thread and I think its now 'cards on the table time'.
So, let me ask you this: what specifically is your grudge against non-Subaru-owners contributing to this bbs?
I think we should be told...

Thanks for the feedback chaps.
It's not meant to ostracize non Scooby owners. Far from it!
It's only out of interest, and it could be an optional feature.
User pictures would be fun too! Not sure about how much they would slow the server down though...
Any more thoughts?

The problem here is that you have to moddify the UBB code.
When you modify the code, support from Infopop becomes an issue, as does the amount of effort to upgrade the board each time a new version comes out. This is something Simon has been keen to avoid in the past.
Chris.

Are you serious, i have just read your other thread 'How many users are Scooby...' and your comments have to be a wind-up. No one in their right mind would want to exclude people from this board 'cause they do not own a Scoob. This is just the sort of stuff that gets Scooby enthusiasts a bad name. This board is for enthusiasts.
IMHO - I do not believe owning a Scoob makes us better or superior.
If you are serious - Who died and made you God, You may well find that this is not the board for you rather than non-Scooby owners eh!

Paul,
Completely agree that the BBS is for enthusiasts, with a specific focus on Imprezas, but not so as to exclude others.
ChrisB,
If this is the case then fine. I wouldn't want Scoobynet to be compromised in terms of Infopop's support etc.
Without wanting to doubt your knowledge on the subject, is it really the case that putting in an extra field (or two) in the user profile, similar to "From" (user location), would require bespoke unsupportable code modification?
It seems so simple...

Yes, a great idea (if its feasible)
Also, I have always wanted to know what people real names are. Can we include this in the profile? Or is this tempting fate with those prying eyes?
Sometimes, I forget the name of someone I have met, very embarassing.

Webbie.
Okay. Not quite what I had in mind, but if the options are limited then fair enough.
Using my.scoobynet.co.uk could be a really good alternative if done well. ( )
I'll restate that I fully agree with you that you shouldn't muck about with the UBB code if it affects system support etc.
MarkO, BarryK
Yeah, I'm on that site too, but it would exclude non-scooby owning Scoobynetters, so it's not really in the spirit of what I had in mind.
Keep the ideas coming!...

Lad who works for me couldn't get insurance to young, however he almost creams everytime a scoob passes him and reports in the next day. "Blue one big spoiler think it was an sti" One day he'll have one. $ years ago I didn't have one but was always talking to people who did. fueled my desire kept the dream alive and all that. Now I've got one and have joined the club etc everyone seems cool and impartial to car choice. Its great so please leave the "Non scooby Driver" comments at home.
cheers

Not sure about your reaction Chip ? Surely you don't want to say that JohnF - OK, he has a sport - , MikeR, BlowDog, Watty et al. have to leave this board, because they drive the wrong cars ( ) ?
Not trying to pick a fight, just a bit amazed...
I personally still think that one of the better things that happened to Scoobynet was the arrival of a few great people from RSOC, challenging some Scoobie "supremacy", and frankly allowing us to unplug certain heads from certain behinds without us loosing face ...
Just a thought.

OK, OK, What I meant to say was I think a lot of thr crap written on here is as we know, written by non-scooby owners,as well as scooby owners themselves. If those people were not on here there would be a lot less of it. I also didn't mean to sound derogatory
to RS owners, as I myself have been an RS owner.
For those that are non-scooby owners and are sensible then no problem its just the ********* that come along that get to me sometimes. We all recall the P1 guy dont we.
Some of us also remember Penni who was on this board every day. Why did she go, Because there was too much ****e every day on here.
Just airing my own personal thoughts like a lot of people do.
Paul.. If you dont like the fact that people have their own opinions and want me off this board then just say and Ill be gone, though I hope this is not the case.
Chip.

Chip - we forgive you, even though I don't own a Scooby I will in about 14 days though and counting So you cant call me then. I do love the culture though, that is why I partake.
