Default MAX SAFE BOOST

Whats the max boost a standard 2003 UK STI(full spec in garage) engine can handle .Mine was limited to 1.4 but has crept up to 1.6 towards 1.7.
Ive emailed my Mapper and will be avoiding full boost for now.
Cant find any loose pipes etc everything looks as it should and runs fine .
Anyone got any ideas .

Cheers
Wayne

The ecu can control upto 1.65 bar approximately, mine does as it's mapped to, cold weather can add 0.1 bar extra, but so long as you get it checked over it should be fine.

Mine burst a boost hose and hit 2.1 bar before the alarm triggered (Defi) so just avoid any leaden footed antics.

IMHO

For now, having run 2.1 bar by accident, ( the Monaro got away when I hit the hazards and left the M62..... ) I can't wait to get a 2.1 stroker built !

LOL

Yes mate i'm the same 2.1 forged(when i can afford) nice'n strong let the turbo perform to its max,and a few more torks.LOL.
Are you running 1.65 bar all the time on standard internals, its just mine was mapped to settle at 1.4 to keep things safe .
If your answer is yes this is good means iam hopefully not gona kill mine but i am in comms with the mapper now and will get it checked soonest hopefully.

Cheers

Rigged up a second mechanical boost gauge today and turns out my electrical prosport is being a bit optimistic. The car is peaking a bit higher but is settling where it should so happy days.

I was strongly advised by Bob Rawle my mapper to keep the boost closer to 1.4 settled otherwise i'd be chancing engine damage running standard internals. Are you on standard internals ,what model car is it.

Bob R is nobody's fool. It may be that when he mapped it he was only happy to dial in that much boost, when mine was mapped I asked JGM to make sure it lasted a year

And it is up next week

LOL

dunx

P.S. Mine has some cylinder head issues to be addressed, but while it's out a longer throw crank might as well be dropped in ?
