No problems here either. I have used mag plugs for years on several different cars as an early warning system, but have never used these particular ones.
As above virtually all aircraft (at least the ones I worked on in the RAF) have them fitted and they are removed at regular intervals to check for problems.
My experience so far is that the Subaru sheds very little metal debris so if you suddenly get a build up you have a problem looming. Time to get rid or repair as your conscience permits.
Other people on here have problems with them for some reason that I have not seen convincingly explained yet. There are stories of cheap ones falling apart/stripping threads but you get what you pay for (as with everything) and are not a reason for not fitting a good one.
Incidentally the Scooby gearbox is already fitted with a mag plug as standard.

The gearbox plug is magnetic ..... is that because there is no filter.
In my opinion the oil filter will stop anything which could cause damage ..... anything small enough to get past the filter is what will be caught. Are you worried about these very small particles?

Yes, the gearbox plug is magnetic because there is no filter.
Yes, the oil filter should stop any small particles in the pumped oil, but you have forgotten about splash lubrication.
Also, never claimed mag plugs protect the engine, even on aircraft, they are intended give an early warning of impending failure. Read the post....
Still havn't seen a convincing reason not to fit one LOL

i read a post saying that later sti's had magnetic sump plugs fitted as standard.
i believe the same plug can be used in all scoobys ?
These you can buy from a dealer for a fraction of the cost of the ones above.
anyone got a part number?

you lot need to get down a dealer and give them this part no.807020010 it's an engine sump plug from 08my> and it's magnetic and it will fit all subarus for the grand price of £4.78 inc vat
Let's see to sum up mag plugs;
The RAF use them
Rolls Royce use them
SUBARU use them
PSlewis/sunmysideup don't
Let's see now, do I fit one or not????? HELL YES!

Ferromagnet materials will lose their magnetism if heated above a point known as the Curie temperature.
The Curie temperature of a ferromagnetic or a ferrimagnetic material is the reversible point above which it becomes paramagnetic (it is for instance 768°C or 1414 °F for iron.)
I doubt that the sump temperature ever reaches 768°C
The particles which pass through the filter are of no consequence at all to an engine.
