Talking Prodrive style or Prodrive???

Scooby nooby
After an 02 bug sti prodrive pref in blue!

My old boss had the limited prodrive style addition

I've found a mint 27k one in blue but its the 'style'....

Other than the extra 25bhp are there any other spec differences between the two??????

Launch of the Subaru Impreza WRX STi, and WRX STi Prodrive Style (Type UK) | The Car Enthusiast |

Have a look here...... the UK bugeye STi came in two flavours. The STi and the STi "Prodrive style". The difference being a Prodrive "Styling pack"....spoiler, grille, lights etc, mechanically they were the same..

On top of that either car could have the Prodrive Performace Pack (PPP) upping the power to circa 300PS.

A Prodrive STi has PPP kit fitted to it: Prodrive tuned ECU, Decat midpipe, Sports CAT downpipe, Prodrive backbox and silicon Intercooler Y Pipe.

An STi Prodrive Style doesn't have PPP but as the name suggests, styling parts.
Such as Prodrive front bumper, twisty sideskirts, bigger spoiler and different dial afaik

I had an 02 STI Prodrive Style WITH the Prodrive Performance Pack but the PPP wasn't that great. Earlier PPP cars such as this had a piggy back board installed into the ecu rather than an Ecutek type reflash. My car always struggled to make the claimed 300 bhp with runs ranging from 272-285 bhp. Eventually I decatted the car and fitted some tubular headers and had a proper remap and it made over 340 bhp.

right to get this cleared up, the 02 STi Prodrive is the one with the style kit, it is in the log book as Sti Prodrive, this is where the confusion is, people just call any Sti with the PPP a STi prodrive, which is really technically wrong lol, because the STi prodrive has the styling package , now the one with the performance pack is really an STi with a PPP, lol, confuddled, lol, listen, to be honest, best going for the Prodrive styled one, because your going to more than likely remap it, with that real loud exhaust, induction, etc etc. IMHO

OK

There are 4 bugeye UK cars to choose from

WRX STi (Type UK)

WRX STi (Type UK) with prodrive performance pack

and...

WRX STi (Type UK) Prodrive style

WRX STi (Type UK) Prodrive style with Performace pack.
.
.
.

The Prodrive Performace Pack (PPP) is a performance package

The "Prodrive style" is a styling package and was a limited production run.

All the above cars share the same mechanicals / drivetrain.

There is no such animal as an "STi Prodrive".......just as there is no STi 7 LOL

Correct.

Some 02 STi's did have a remapped ecu, most had the piggy back, in reality there was no performance difference as stated by Mike Wood from Prodrive at the time.
Mine (piggy back) usually made between 280bhp + 290bhp, I don't think any made the 300 as stated.

The very early Prodrive Performance Packs did use a daughter board, Prodrive were still getting used to the new Denso ECU used in the bugeye. The Classics used a JECS ECU which had a slot for another EPROM accessed by cutting a resistor..

After a short while Prodrive managed to sort out the PPP with a re-mapped ECU and ditched the daughter board

i can confirm that prodrive changed to generic ecutek as per my car (here is the full name..) myo2 wrx sti prodrive style type uk ppp!! if your looking for a keeping standard( at leaset for a year or two lol) then go for the one with ppp (will be around 290bhp though not the reported 300+) other wise get the prodrive style then as said ecutek mapped (after desiered mods fitted) to go 300+bhp

Mine was the 02 WRX STi Prodrive Style when I bought it. Confused salesman thought it was a ppp Sti told me it had 300bhp and the exhaust etc.. So after i bought it i did a bit of research on here to find it was in fact a Prodrive Style STi with no PPP. So back tothe garage, complained and got a free PPP fitted. Result. Loved that car would have kept longer it but had to let it go.

Thankyou for all your help and wealth of knowledge

Particularly to Midlife

Confirmed my suspicions - I have seen a number of 'Prodrives' advertised making it unclear whether they have the PPP or the limited styling pack. (or both )

I have found a prodrive style (without PPP) but with a remap etc etc producing 340Bhp in blue which i am very very interested in, now just got to travel to the other end of the country to pick it up!

Just to add my old boss bought a black Prodrive style (no PPP) from a dealer, 3 days later and one big accident (from overtaking nutter) 100 black - 1 written off.

Straight back to same dealer and bought an identical one in blue = (one dealer very happy!)

Get the Prodrive "style" one mate - I had one 5 years ago - looks without a doubt the best bug ever. Just replace the horrid orange reflectors with clear / carbon. The standard car with PPP is not nice, the PPP not worth the money. I had one of the 100 blue / black cars - sorry i ever sold it now to be honest - they also have the best seats of any series impreza sti - the blob eye and later cars seats are nasty and cheap looking in comparision. I think the bug STi Prodrive's are the best of the new age to be honest - just wish it had the blob eye lights!

Get a standard one - then put on a sports cat/ decat - and get it remapped.

yep code confirmed 1 of poss 99
mine has the ppp and to be honest it's not all that bad up on power over standard sti anyway i think its down to mods if ya gonna mod it you will end up having to map the car anyway so the ppp will become pointless i purchased mine with the ppp added by original owner so cost me nothing agree the prodrive style is deffo the one to have ppp or not

You shoud try the hatchback recaro seats

I had a prodrive style sti in 2002 - fantastic seats
I had an 05 STI - not so fantastic seats

I now have a 330S - best seats of the lot

But if your a bit of a "fatty" then these seats are not for you
