paint repair goes dull......
...then goes shiny again?!
yep, my rear wing was repaired about 4 weeks ago following a supermarket ding, all fine, then washing car at weekend and it has gone dull, lost its shine. give it a quick polish, but not really any better.
then go to work today, and its shiny again! not seen that before!
only trouble is, it looks a little lighter now. weird. silver by the way.
any ideas??

not heard anything like this really, altho when painting a car that has had lots of primer on you get a bit of dieback with the shine, this is sorted out by a good flat of the clearcoat and compounding with g3 cutting paste, what happens is the primer and basecoat soak up the clearcoat so all looks well in spraybooth but next day it dulls off somewhat,if too much activator in clearcoat or a faster acceloraor is used to get it to go off quicker, you can get a hazey finish too,but for it to go from shiney to dull and back sounds odd to me mate, hth you.

Best thing to do is get sum 1200 grit sandpaper or anything more than that nothing under 1000 grit, give it a little sand off just asif u were putting polish on, and the tcut the area and buff off it will *** up like glass and wont fade and will stay shiney

Being a painter my self, all you need to do is just take it back and ask them to give the panel and good flat and polish... That will sort it out!. If you are going to do it your self, I would say use 2000 or at the most 1500. Other wise its going to be very hard work to get the flatting marks out.... Hope I could help!
