Default Prodrive ecu will it help

After recently melting a piston I found this ecu for sale.
Subaru Prodrive ECU version 1 and 2 *Ultra-Rare item* on eBay (end time 27-Mar-10 19:11:32 GMT)

My garage say that the problem/cause with my failure is fuelling as jap cars are mapped for higher octane. Ive spoken to the seller and he says it will fit my car alrite 97 prefacelift Impreza. My car has a prova ecu which runs a fair high boost 1.3-1.4 bar but looks like its munching my pistons.
The Prodrive ecu should be a good buy yes?

Well as your using pretty much the same ecu it wont make any difference.
You need to find the cause of your piston failure and correct that, be it by going for an aftermarket ecu and getting it mapped or adding more visible and audiable items like a KS3 to show you your car is killing itself, but no point changing the ecu to one thats already identical as your cars already mapped for 97 ron and the ppp requires 97 ron.

I dont think the high octane fuel was available until around the V4-V5 cars.
My V3 STI running slightly higher than std boost was fine on 98 fuel.

Scoobyride you must have pressed the button same time as me

prova ecus have a reputation of killing engines over here. depending on when prova altered that ecu will effect what fuel its mapped for. what you want is a z4 ecu. that is a jap ecu but its perfectly safe to use with uk super unleaded. have used one for years.

Perhaps it was mapped for higher octane fuel after such became available.
