driving car as soon as turning ignition on
hi all due to going work at 5.30am getting complaints that my car is to loud my question is, is it safe to pull of my drive as soon as the car is started?
what im thinking to do is start car go 50 yrds down the road and let temp build up, is it safe to start car and pull of for 50 yrds?

thats right mate its fine to drive it straight away but if you give it some welly before its up to temperature it is very bad for it,increased engine wear on the internals for starters as the water and oil needs to circulate and lube everything up fully before giving it any real stick

Know a lot off folk who let there scooby / evo warm up before driving off, and thats not so they can drive at full sped on the way to work either !! personally thought it was the same for finishing your journey ie.letting thecar idle etc - turbo timer ??

But seriously you leave your engine running for 10mins at 5.30am I'm not suprised that your neighbours have been complaining.

Its fine to drive straight away just take it easy and no/0.1 boost until she is warmed up
also goes for when your coming home as long as you take it easy for the last couple of miles you shouldn't have to sit there and wait for it to all whined down

Can't believe this, someone too frightened to drive their car, does he think it's the space shuttle and is waiting for Cape Canaveral to start the countdown. I'll bet he uses a tank of fuel parked in the driveway watching the temp gauge.

I usually let it run for about a minute or so and as soon as the revs begin to drop I'm away, not going passed 2.5k revs until she is up to temperature.
10 minutes seems very excessive. Think of the petrol

Its not advisable to let your car warm up for more than around 3 minutes, as said it just takes longer to get the Oil warm. Id let it have a minute then set off and do as everyone else has said.

Nowadays, as has already ably been said, leaving it sitting there is worse than driving gently away immediately.
Still, at least Peter and his neighbours will be happier!

Yep I tend to do really early runs or really late finishes. So I'm either starting car early or waiting for car to turn of due to turbo timer late at night. I don't get people complaining yet, just one fella saying that it keeps his dog and his kids up (kids can't hear their ps3 most like). And its not good apperently.
But I just let me car tickover for a min or so then drive slow till its up to temp.

No wonder your neighbours are a bit peeved.
No need to do so, drive 30 sec after you start, min or so in a real cold morning, keep below 3k revs until it is warmed up (5 mins or so dependant on temps and driving/roads) and the guage of course
Leaving sat there in a 'high' idle is likely to increase bore wear.

Fair play.
You're not the only one to think like this. No need to let it tick over upon your return either as long as you've done the last few minutes of your journey off boost.
The only dilema comes when you're bursting for a **** and pull in at the services getting there as soon as you can

What size is the exhause system?
I'll hazzard a guess that its unnecessarily large and you're in danger of getting fined over it.
Especially when your neighbours lodge a formal complaint
