witch turbo?
hi all
im after some advice regarding witch turbo to buy
my v5 type r with exhaust remap etc is running 333/310 but i would like to go to the next stage maybe 370-380 bhp
i plan on getting the neccesary parts over the next 6 months or so and was wondering what turbo people think would be best.
the car is driven every day and only gets thrashed on the weekends

I asked this question last week already with a couple of ideas, they were confirmed, the md321h or andy forests td05-18 or 20g. I think the md spools a bit better but there is a few quid in price diffrence. The 321 is the one to go for if you want to spend nearly £1500. afp td05 = £895+vat.

Your looking at a fully forged rebuild to sustain anything over 350bhp, and then a new clutch and potentially a new gearbox, just add 10k+, new brakes, fmic, new manifold, uprated injectors, uprated fuel pump, 3 inch exhaust, either a new ecu or ecutek the one you have etc, not a cheap move, your best with either what you have now or basically binning the car and getting a new age and doing it cheaper that way.

More like what engine do you need

TMIC will be no good really chris, neither will your engine for prolonged periods, all the classic 2ltr turbocharged cars run the same wonderfully sh1te rods, these connect your pistons and keep em in place, you start seeing the failures as low as 340bhp, some last (for a short time) at 400bhp but your on borrowed time when you fit them, and 350lbs of torque is asking for clutch/gearbox problems, so either do it all now or pay the price of not having your car on the road for long periods, or selling up and getting a better starting block
Tony
PS, a FMIC is recommended on a classic for anything over 320bhp really as the classic scoop doesnt push enough air onto the intercooler (hence you get a shed load of failures through det on high speed runs)

you obviously know your stuff
it probably is better to start inside the engine, forged pistons etc, then work through the other components, gearbox etc,
i think i will have to do everything properly and keep things reliable
not let the greed for more power get the better of me

Its not cheap back in 1999/2000 they use to rebuild these engines at 320bhp still people push em further and further, it just compromises the reliability, your waiting for it to go pop
Parts shouldnt cost you a fortune around 15-1600 quid for the rods/pistons/twin scroll nitrided crank and acl bearings.

I'm using an 18g, v5 sti bottom end and running 350bhp on v-power and 370bhp on 10%meth. Just had the meth map done last week but been running 350bhp for approx 9 month on my second hand/no history v5 sti bottom end with out any issue. Car isn't used every day but does see track days and a good bit of abuse. I have replaced the gearbox once though.
