tax disc rise on bugeye?
Hi all,
Got my tax disc renewal through which showed that it would be £215 for a year which i didn't think was too bad, as, if i remember correctly, that's what i paid last year. However, upon completing the online application it stated that a duty of £245 was due and that the displayed amount on my letter would've been correct at the time of print.
So what has made it increase? Was there something in the budget, i certainly don't remember anything being mentioned.
Any ideas?
Regards
Rick

The "something in the budget" was announced a year or two ago and then delayed from what I recall. A load of other pre-announced vehicle-related measures came into force last week, inc the "showroom tax" etc.

Yep - they're a bunch of sneaky b@stards.
They announce things as deferred and then by the time that comes around most folk have forgotten.
Eases the initial pain for the government
Showroom tax is a right beezer - its a higher amount of tax you've got to pay for the cars first registration.
On one hand they want you to spend money buying new cars, but then they come up with this old shyte.
For example, I bought a new STI 330S last month.
Had I bought it this month instead then the first years tax would have been £950

Hi Bern11,
When it stated that the price may differ from that of the printed letter it also said that this newer higher price would be the same no matter which means you paid it by.

It's just like the pre-election manifesto. We won't raise tax on pay which sounds good along with a increase in minimum wage. But I am sure that the increase in minimum wage will put more people into the tax paying band or put them over the income threshold for income suport, tax credit and a number of other benefits avaliable.
Goverment (any) gives with left hand but takes more with the right hand.

£400+ Car Tax retrospective is a disgrace ..... but, I suppose we do drive fuel thirsty cars - our fault as we are killing the future for our selfish desires of today!

If you don't like it sell up and buy a push bike!
Whether you have aided (and a lot of people have) the issue of tax increases is not relevant.... the fact is we all have to pay for this humungous deficit. **** happens and whilst I may agree or disagree, there are far more important things in my life to worry about.
Whilst we still live in a democracy that enables us to make certain choices, all is not lost.
If anybody is naive enough to think "who ever" get's in come May, the outcome will be vastly different, then so be it. If I have said it once I have said it a thousand times, it was cheap before, it is still cheap now, it will certainly be dearer in the future. Sad, but most definately true. Make the most of it.

Just paid £205 for my Classic MY00 ..... seems like mine is going to be rather sought after!
The end is nigh for the Impreza, really, it is .... the resale values must be on the floor for the new cars ... £450 Tax, to be £600 in 2011, £900 in 2012 and god knows what then!

But they knew back in 2002 that it was a thirsty motor, but chose to do nothing then ?

... but that's exactly what you expect from most politicians these days.
