Default Too cheap to be true...2002 STi on pistonheads

I don't know if anyone else spotted it, but over the last few days there has been a black 2002 STi for sale on pistonheads. It's on for £3000, which in my opinion is very very cheap, too cheap (it is now off there again). It has also appeared on ebay (see link below). I e-mailed the seller to say I would buy it, and got a reply (see below). In my opinion, and I may have got this totally wrong, but this appears to be a scam. If I have got it wrong then I am off to Milan to pick it up, if I haven't then please beware!

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2002-SUBARU-IM...item1e5b29db1a

Hi,

The car is still available for sale,it is in perfect condition in and out,100% HPI clear with a certificate to confirm, full service history.
I just got married and moved with my Italian husband in Milan,Italy.I took the car with me so the car is currently here.
I can`t use it in Italy because it has the wheel on the right side and it would also cost me too much to register it here.
It is still registered in the UK and since I have absolutely no use for it I am looking for a fast sale( this is why the low asking price)
I can ship the car from here directly to your home address and I am also willing to cover all delivery expenses.
I look forward to your reply
Regards
Carrie

As I thought. Anyone tried ringing the number? I can't as I'm in Thailand (where impreza's are 300% more expensive!)

I would replay by saying I regularly get over to Italy so it would be no problem to meet, complete the sale and drive home.

How anyone falls for scams like this is totally beyond me.

I didn't understand that either. Is it that the guy on ebay (who has good feedback) is a genuine seller and somebody has just "cloned" his advert???

How are people getting away with this?? It's just a classic line now.

"I've moved to outer mongolia, but the car is mint, i'll ship it, incur costs, guarantee everything, blah blah blah"

What a crock of s**t!!

I reported it to Pistonheads as a scam as soon as I saw the ad !

No one sells a genuine car for half the market value !

Here is one of the latest e-mails from him....

"I confirm that there absolutely no modifications on the car,I assure you it has the original STI engine and the andriod valve is 100% working.
I have received your details and will start the Pistonheads insurance today.I will also be in touch with the shippers to get a booking and sort out the delivery as soon as possible this week.
Talk to you soon,it was a pleasure dealing with you
Carrie"

As I am holiday and have the time, I thought I would string him along. I will see how far he will go before he realises I am wasting his time!

I have just e-mailed to say I want to send cash through the post, see if they will give an address. I bet they will want me to send it to her brother in Pakistan! And also asked some more very silly questions.

Yes it was. I also asked if it was crown or delux paint and if the darlex unit still works...

"The colour of the car is Deluxe Black indeed ( sorry I forgot to specify).Being a lady owner I am afraid I am not sure what to tell you about the darlex unit...I`ve never heard of such a thing at my car but since the car is driving flawlessly I believe it is in good condition...also the mileage is quite low (72000 miles).
During the 24 hrs inspection period you can take the car to a garage or have it RAC/AA inspected,I absolutely welcome any checks you want to perform on the car and documents.
You also have the right to decline the car if you will find ANYTHING wrong with it.In this case the delivery team will collect the car from you and return it to me,absolutely no extra charges for you.
Please check your e-mail and junk/spam folder too and see if you have received the Pistonheads notification, you will find there all the payment instructions and everything.
I look forward to your reply as soon as possible so we can finalize the sale this week
Carrie"

I just wonder how silly it can get before they realise no money is ever going to change hands....I have been told published a book with stories like these, called "In the name of God". The auther got some guy to spend his life savings on getting a flight to meet him to pick up what he thought would be a load of cash. What goes around comes around (unfortunatly I am sure not often enough though).
