Extortionate prices direct from Subaru
Just spoke with Mike from Camskill regarding standered springs and shock absorbers (very helpfull guy),of which he got me a good deal on front and rear shocks ,i also wanted a price on springs of which he said he would have to contact Subaru direct for a price, while he was in the process i asked if he could enquire a price for top mounts, top cup, and dust covers.
I then recieved a call back form Mike who had contacted subaru for me and the results was astonashing, for standered turbo suspension it all worked out to be £250 per corner total price there or there abouts £1000.00 .
I was selling some apex lowering springs with shockers complete with the above mentioned topmounts ,cups and dust cover, not now after recieving these prices,i'm going to order the shockers from Mike (camskill) and use all my other componant parts to lower the price ,how can subaru charge these prices for standered parts when after market are so much cheaper for the price i have been given i could get a set of aftermarket suspension for around the same price it dosn't make sense.
Hope this thread will help anyone out there going down the same route as myself, wanting to take the car back to standered think before selling your own.

Parts are made in japan, exchange rate sucks, parts become more expensive, plus these parts should last 100k miles, not bad for 1k really if you think of it along those lines but oem parts will be cheaper.

I had the same experience when it came to replacing disks and pads on my 2004 STI - standard Subaru parts were a ridiculous price and it was cheaper to go to a Performance Friction set up. Up until this point I had always serviced the car at main dealers, but this opened my eyes up to how much money I was throwing away so I now go to an independent.

slightly off top[ic but I brought a brand new front bumper for my 05 STI from Subaru on Sat and it was 199 plus VAT, I thought that was a reasonable price.
Your right about the shocks though, a grand for all 4 is shocking, lol. I paid that for BC coilovers, whiteline front & rerar arbs and anti lift kit recently.

If they ain't selling the cars new they've got top claw back the money off of the people who already own them, that means you and me when we go to the parts/service department! I bought a paint touch up pen for £12, no lacquer. Ford and Hyundai touch up pen and lacquer £8. Subaru are very expensive on parts, must be false economy as if they were cheeper they would sell more rather than people going the pattern route?

However the exchange rates haven't helped opne bit, but they are beginning to settle again.
Only time will tell us if IM reassess prices.

I ordered some retaining pins (2 of), 2 x springs and 4 x bolts for some STI brakes. In total, almost £90.
Other sources have them for cheaper I guess - but it's down to reliability of the components.
I doubt I would ever have my car in to Subaru for a service now - when I can get more work done and probably to a higher standard with a local specialist.
