Default Oh dear will need a new exhaust. Which One?

After taking my99 V5 for a service and a new Ninja Sports cat in Feb, they noticed a hole in my Apexi N1. They happily pasted it up and told me it could be iffy for MOT.

So this month I have MOT and took car in to find out if exhuast will be ok. He did the test after I had warmed up car. I noticed the 3 sections the CO and HC was ok, but my Lamda sensor was still in red. He reckeoned it could just need warming up. But another fella looked at exhaust and said the paste had been destroyed. Looking at the rest he said I'll will need a new one. The air being sucked into hole could be affecting the outcome of the Lamba sensor.

God sorry this is a long boring thread. I know there are tons of threads on which exhaust are best. But using this search thing it don't seem to work.

Anyways, I'm looking at the Afterburner Vortex now does anyone know how louder this is compared to my Apexi N1. I think scoobyworld do a afterburner Vortex R 3" but I think thats too expensive. I have a impression that will be well loud.

Does these come with a bung. And does these bungs cause problems if you drive your car hard.

I'm also considering the Ninja 2. But I like to have the gorgous noise of the flat four.

I could ask them like but I could see a line of rust running along the top off the exhaust back to the centre of the system where the resonator is. I know it would save me a lot of money. But a couple of months down line it could blow somewhere else. Not entirely sure.

If there is air getting in from this hole is it bad for the sensor?

Has anyone have good views on the afterburner or Ninja 2. I rang Scoobyworld today. And they said that afterburner was loud but couldn't compare it to my Apexi.

Sounds silly but don't want to buy a exhaust which is quieter then my Apexi lol

I've just fitted the Scoobyworld catback system to my STi and chose the Afterburner backbox.

To be honest its not at all loud when pootling around town or sitting in 6th on the motorway. However, give it some beans and it comes alive and the sound is awesome.

Don't know how it compares to your Apexi but I'd recommend the Afterburner without hesitation.

i had full decat with the vortex back box on my v3 sti and it was VERY loud. to the point i took it off and replaced it with a sti genome which was much quieter. so i would say get something else cause it will do your head in after a while.

I have a Vortex with de-res pipe, 2nd cat delete and Prodrive sportcat. My report is this:-

1. Loud when foot flat to the floor.
2. Reasonable when doing 80-90 on the motorway. The wife and kids didnt mind on the 2 1/2 hour trip to Plymouth the other day.
3. Overall not too intrusive. (with window closed!)

Question for anyone who's said they're running (or were running) an AB Vortex - was yours a 2.5" or 3" pipe to the backbox?

Sorry for the thread-hijack, but thinking about getting one of these myself, and also trying to get a clear idea of noise level.

I have a ninja 2 system on mine, sounds lovely. Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of the Blitz Nur Spec, but I think the ninja 2 is a happy medium.

Don't worry about the hijack as I'm in same boat do I get 2.5 or 3 lol. I need to decide very quickly to. As it's in next tuesday for MOT. Thing is I love the sound of the car and don't want to buy a exhaust which is quieter than the one I have now. But then again if the AB Vortex is like mega loud then I've wasted money lol.

I don't do moterway miles and I don't thrash car. So if its reasonable for pooteling along town then maybe. Its my own bladdy fault I thought my MOT was end of may not the beginning lol.

2.5" centre section to my Vortex backbox.

And honestly, it isn't loud for everyday or motorway driving.

Have a HKS Silent Power - is amazing. well worth the money. Really quiet on the motorway for that type of exhaust.

I'm selling a ninja ii backbox mate if your interested. Not as loud as a vortex but still pretty loud. Also has a bung you can screw in to make it quieter for long trips etc but I never bothered with it.

Yer I'm looking towards getting a AB Vortex but decisons, decisons.

I'm not sure weather to get it welded. I didn't think Stainless Steel corroded lol.

If I got a vortex I would need to get the centre section but would have it resonated.

Well this is the state of my exhaust now. If you look at the rest of the underside would you say I should be concerned with the rust.

Next month I'm having her undersealed again. Also I noticed there is a blue like bar. What is that and do yuo know if its standard?

I sthe exhaust I have on now look like a 2.5 or 3 bore thanx

I've seen worse-looking exhausts than get through an MOT. It's not a load-bearing part, so the main thing the tester's concerned about is whether it's gas-tight, which you can't tell from a picture. Best tip I know of to check if it's blowing is to hold a small mirror close over any suspected holes, and see if it steams up.

Very hard to tell what that blue bar is without seeing how it's attached at each end, but maybe an after-market strut-brace of some kind?

Yes there is a hole I'm afraid where the pipe meets the baffle. Or backbox.

But I've ordered a AB Vortex tailpipe with a afterburner centre section with resonator.

Yer I think so to. I'm having the whole car undersealed again in May so hopefully they will use a wire brush to get rid of the surface rust. Does look bad compared to a pic I took 2 years ago when I had her first undersealed lol.

Had a txt from my mum that my exhaust has come.
Yey so rushed home from work opened her up and oh heck the centre section is wrong. I ordered a Ab Section but have a Ninja centre section.

Would this make a real big difference as my cars in MOT on thursday. I'm going to ring up in morning to see if I can change it and hopefully get it on time for thurs.

Lovely backbox though. Just hope it performs just as good.
