Default engine advice needed

hi all

about 2 weeks ago my car started making a noise when i started it up and the engine was cold it sounded like a diesel but after about 2 min the noise went and the car drove as normal but today it has developed a new noise witch i am very worried about it sounds terrible like some someone hitting metal with a hammer when my car is ticking over its ok but then the noise starts at about 2k revs and continues to about 3k revs at first i thought it could just be something loose like the exhaust rattling but when ive lifted the bonnet and reved it the noise seems to be comming from inside the engine.
its a sti type r v5 any advice would be greatly appreciated

Oh dear. As above, has all the hallmarks of a bottom end failure.

Can't help but ask Chris, did you first hear this noise before or after starting this thread? Either way, BMFCrash and Tony's words now appear to be more than a little prophetic.

Agreed on the hallmarks of bottom end failure, especially with noises between 2-3k. Saw a 55 plate WRX with the same symptoms a couple weeks back, its having a rebuild now.

Sorry dude, good luck with it.

Well you said in your other thread you were getting it forged with a six speed, looks like its time. Just nip to the bank and lift £5k, it will be back on the road in a week.

It could be a blow in a up pipe that makes it sound like that, as my mates wrx wagon was making the similar noise but still running strong

Expensive lesson learnt! I don't know why my bottom end failed as I don't know how the previous owner had driven it, and it only had 9,000 miles on the clock!
