Diesel Shock!

Diesel Shock!
Went to the Honda Dealer today .... took a Civic Type R out - not bad, but the seats cut into my ample buttocks a bit too much ... and Mrs Fatty didn't like the seats at all. Drove OK, but I can imagine having to rev it all the time would get rather tedious.
Got back from Test Drive and told Salesman of the seats ... he said 'Try a Type S' ... more for the mature fattie!! "We only have the 2.2 diesel here at the moment" ... so, we took it out.
WOW!! is all I can say!! It is clearly slower than the Type R ... but it felt faster if that makes any sense? It was so pleasant to drive that I raced back to sign on the dotted line!!
Not really - but it was close, and I may well jump in ... the Mazda6 Sport seems the only thing to stop me (in white they look amazing!).
He asked about the Impreza sitting outside his window - I said I could Part Ex. it ... he said that the trade don't want them anymore and the values are hopeless. But, he could very definately want to buy it himself! He said he may sell it on, could sell it with his contacts on a commission basis or may well keep it himself! ..... he said the Trade would only pay £1700-£2300 (WeBuyAnyCar bid £1900 - so, he may be right) - but, he said, it is a one owner Impreza Turbo .... they don't come along that often, if ever ... so, struggles to value it accurately.
Not sure what you lot think? MY00 Impreza Turbo Wagon 99,000 miles and MOT May 2011, one owner, full history.
I did say to him that the thought of advertising such a cheap, cult car concerns me in those it would attract ... and can I be bothered - that's when he said he would probably buy it for himself.
Anyway .... it seems Diesel is the way to go!

I wanted to hate the diesel .... really, but the maths add up so well, especially as it goes so well.
It's the same price as an Impreza Turbo Hatch with free ppp ... the Impreza wins on value for money new ... but then comes the daily costs, the £435 Road Tax, the 22mpg, the everything else!

People are waking up to modern turbo-diesels My Fabia has more torque (420Nm or 312 lb/ft) than many Scoobs (around 240 lb/ft), and does 30-70 in 6.1s (verified) and still can hit 60mpg (on the pooter). £110 tax too, and I insure it as a driving instructor for £500, but private insurance would probably be under £300. My heart wants another Scooby, but my head won't allow it

My mother has a diesel Volvo C30 (I think) its the latest model what ever it is, I borrowed it for a day last week and was surprised by how much grunt it had low down, cracking car to drive as well, driving position was good, seats were comfy, oddles or torque, but sounded like a f,ing tractor at tick over

My heart definately shouts ... go get a WRX with ppp!!!!!
And my Scooby has given me the best motoring I have ever experienced. But, me head tells me that a diesel is the way forward ...... I just bet I put petrol in it!!!!!
I have not decided to jump yet, but the Type S has made me really think it's time.

Wow - does that mean I'm one of those dying breeds?
I actually sold my BMW Diesel to webuyanycar and got meself a Scooby!
I admit, the masses of low torque and the 'feeling' of speed is hard to resist - plus the fact the lastest BMW 530d auto does 44mpg and 0-60 in 6.3 sec and road tax abt £175!
But, everything has it pluses, and with 4-wheel drive, masses of BHP and the one bit that I missed most, the crisp, quiet smoothness of a petrol car! Nothing beats it!
There is still a future for scoobies - there is the diesel legacy/forester, and the petrol industry are catching up with better MPG and lower emissions for petrols (smaller engine twin turbos), plus diesel prices are now getting more expensive that u have to justify the mileage to buying a more expensive diesel than a petrol variant. Or u can convert to LPG like me :-)

From: Slowly rebuilding the kit of bits into a car...
PSL there's the WRX D to be had still !
And back in 1993 my sister bought a Nova 1.5TD SX, that car showed me that the diesel's time had come, and that was 17 years ago.
A re-mapped VAG TDI would astonish you, honestly, and still give 60 mpg in the right conditions.
dunx

You can have fun in a diesel....
Cadwell Park
It did the 24 mile commute the day before, Leeds to Cadwell (100 miles), a full day on track, home, and the commute twice more, then some local mileage before doing a full days driving tuition on a SINGLE TANK OF DIESEL !!!!! A mates Scoob which arrived at Cadwell on a trailer used 3 full tanks before being trailer'd home

You tell me, but I do NEED to vent some driving stress, soon !
If you have a midweek day free would you entertain a run up to the Lakes for a coffee and carrot cake at Coopers ? Then of course we would need to assess the quality of a few pass's

I know, I know ..... but, I simply could not walk past the WRX petrol and the STi to a Diesel Impreza .... I just couldn't do it
An Impreza should be petrol .... a Civic or Mazda6 can be diesel
I could, of course keep mine, but when would I drive it? I have the MX5 as my toy .... the main car is the family workhorse and needs to earn its keep. There are 4 cars in the family - I don't want to add to that number!

I love my scooby wrxd
averaged 44 .2 in 10k miles although normaly short 10 mile fast blasts
torque for everyday driving is great and maybe a second slower then my 10 year one owner unmolested classic that I will keep for ever !
Just insured it for £284 protected and road tax is due next month £150
service will be under £200 in a months time so cheap to run although 22k and a bit more for nice alloys and privacy glass
but Money doesn't matter too much to me at my age

But he knocked me down by a grand, then I knocked it back up by 800
If the car is immaculate and as described in the valuation, then u should get what it valued as...but any 'little' thing and wbac will knock each one by £100!!! For example, the car is dirty - yes dirty! Worn floor mats, the tiniest dent or stone chip they can find etc etc

Its good to hear some people are waking up to diesel cars. I believe i may have the best of both worlds with owning a Legacy Tourer Diesel and a 1999 T Impreza Turbo Wagon just for fun.
The Legacy Diesel just done 66000 miles in two years without one single issue. It goes really well and is driven hard and never drops below the low forties mpg wise and if it is driven gently mid fifties easily.
Regarding price of the Classic Turbos yes it is difficult but by way of example i paid £1800 for mine in January with 98000 miles. Like yours one owner only with full history and had money thrown at it.
Came complete with a box file covering every service invoice MOT"S original purchase invoice etc etc.
Bodywork has a few minor battle scars as you would expect after eleven years and the mileage but been maintained impeccably and unusually it is a completely unmolested example.
Just sailed through an MOT without even an advisory and the previous owner said likewise for all previous MOT"s.
Its all relative but considering the owner paid £23500 for it in March 1999 i was more than happy to pay what i did for it.
At the end of the day its a plaything for me and a hobby as i intend to mint it up and restore to its former glory but it is difficult to resist constantly taking out for a play.
