90 mph in a 70 zone...apparently!
got a letter of intended prosecution today.
it says i got caught by a static camera on the A21 in kent (which i did)
however the letter says i was doing 90mph, and i am 99% sure i was doing about 80mph. YES, i know 80 is still over the limit!!
anyway what do you think i am going to get?? £60 and 3 points?
f*cking Speed cameras

I got caught doing 92 on a bypass once that was a 70 and got 5 points ( strange i know ) and £300 fine and had to appear in court. The 5 points took me over 12 points so they took my licence off me for 4 weeks. It was eaither that or they would slap me with 12 points and i had to stay out of trouble then untill they had cleared, so i opted for the 4 week ban and they gave me a clean licence back. Think they came down on me prety hard. I know a chap whos just been done for 80 in a 50 and he got £180 fine and 6 points.

Not sure you'd get offered a course at 20mph over, probably just 3 points.

See lower down, at 91+ it gets worse potentially and you could be straight banned in theory.

Visit Pepipoo ... if anyone can get you off they can I'd contest it rather than roll over (them to prove still isn't it) albeit that it'll cost more than £60 to defend + you may get more than 3pts

(although I think technically they do not have to show you until it actually gets to court - that's if it does)
but they usually send you the evidence

All / most speedos read 10% too high so 80 on speedo is more like a real 72mph. I mostly drive at 80 on speedo on m/way as that's pretty close to a real 70mph ... have to be some sad policeman to do you for that!

PS
If the OP has been tagged at 90 then his speedo will have been reading 100mph.

But you will then be able to work out the speed of your car from the road markings if it is a traditional camera. Pepipoo will help with this.
If you are not doing 90 plead not guilty and prove why in court using the photo evidence.

That's not my experience fella & I've had satnav / GPS device in cars for 5yrs+ ... nearly every one over reads by 10%. Recently had timing gear strapped to the scoob at Marham & it was miles off the (160mph) clock yet car maxed out at a true 158.6mph.

This happened to someone I know not so long ago. They received a NIP throught the post stating that they had exceeded the speed limit along a dual carriageway. Just as the NIP explained, he was duty bound by law, to provide the name and address of the offender. So he did.
The offender happened to reside in Bangladesh, in a small village, but was over here in this country, on holiday at the time. After providing this information, he no longer received any further communications from the police force.

As mentioned by TX, speedos over-read.
The devices they use to measure speed are not 100% accurate.
Feel free to take it up with them. I remember a case where a motoring Solicitor picked up a speed gun in court and fired it at the back of the courtroom which told him the wall was moving according to the speed gun. Case dropped.

To 99 blue: what does the letter say? If it just asks who was driving, they usually follow it with an offer of £60 and 3 points or go to court, your choice.
In my experience, those who go to court and lose are in a FAR biger group than those who win, and if you do lose, you get MORE points, a BIGGER fine according to your income, and costs against you.
I'd bite the bullet.

Hi guys, I was stopped by an undercover police Jag on the M3
93mph in a 70, 3 points, small fine.. (my first points in 13 years on the road)
also on the sat nav comparison: my nav says 5mph less than my speedo, havn't checked this over a 100mph, but doubt there would be a difference.
good luck with getting out of it..
