Default JDM Sti Remap????

Hi folks

Posting on behalf of my husband, he has recently bought a 52plate jdm sti, mods are full stainless mongoose exhaust in decat, K&N panel filter and blitz bov, according to the previous owner its not been remapped.

Do the above mods have a downside or any damage factor as the have been on the car for about 2 years, sorry for the probable numpty questions but im a non turbo owner and he doesnt have a clue...lol

If a remap is in order is there anywhere in South Yorkshire that is recommended.

Many thanks

Helen

with any major mods such as a full decat your always wise to get it mapped, this will ensure the engine is running as it should and everything is correct ie..air/fuel, boost etc... without a remap you may get over boost which isnt a good thing plus a poor fuel consumption. also with a remap you will get the most out of your mods power wise.

Thanks for the reply, I imagine prices vary for a remap but what could we expect to pay approx?

anything from £350 up for a Ecutek remap or more if you go for a different ecu such as simtek etc.

there are alot of very good mappers around such as JGM..Duncan (race dynamics).. Andy F..Bob Rawle. so you arnt stuck for choice, i believe race dynamics do remapping at £350 (i think)

Does the car have to go to the specialist or just the ecu?

the car...you either drive the car around while the mapper maps the car via a laptop or it can go on a rolling road and be mapped the same way. your best to go out on the road to have it mapped that way the mapper can set the car to your driving style

Looking at the mods you have the DENSO ECU should be able to cope and keep the car running at the Jap Agreed limit of 280 BHP on V-power. The ECU is pretty clever and will reduce power if it thinks the engine is in danger LOL

There were problems with boost spikes on UK decatted cars but not with JDM models.

I'd see if Duncan at Racedynamics can just tweak the OEM map using open source to get the best out of the situation

Just in case I am flamed down for suggesting an Open Source Map......I have had my car mapped by Bob Rawle, Andy Forrest and Pat Herbourne with EcuTek

Hi Helen (and Helen's husband)

I am often up that way mapping (was yesterday) - next up on the 9th and 10th.

With your mods it does need a remap and especially as it is a JDM model and if unmapped will be running huge amounts of timing based on jap spec fuel (better than ours) and will probably be detting like almost every other JDM unmapped I have seen.

As diagnosed yesterday it is overboosting significantly by around 0.4 bar but because it is running extremely rich it is not detting.

Once the AVCS cams are fixed it will fly with a good remap right the way up to the JDM rev limit.
