Default why so hard to get a 3" downpipe

doing my head in, i am trying to get a 3" decat downpipe for my classic , alot of ppl advertise as such but they are either not 3" or they taper down to 2.5 inch or less
they say this will then fit a standard exhaust , yeah great but if i want a 3" downpipe dont you think ive got a 3" exhaust already and how many classics haven`t got a 3" exhaust or some aftermarket one any way.
ive just been to see one and it was 3" all the way but the last 1\2 inch reduced to 2.5 - lol - why????

Classics were like 2.25 inches, people changed them to 2.5 or 3 inch, but they replaced the whole system normally, so thats your best bet, if you are mix and matching it will make life quite complicated

well its an apexi 3" catback which fits the flange off my standard downpipe so i thought should be easy enough to find the fitting and i like my exhaust - ie not too loud............yet

I've never known the diameter of the downpipe on mine as i've never taken it off to measure... which part of the pipe do you have to measure to find out? Is it 3" or 2.5" on the outside or the inside?

Might whip mine off in the morning for a quick check

I bought mine from Roger Clark although it's a Janspeed item. Very well made and certainly 3"
