What is it with **** on the motorway these days ? After yesterday on the M4 and today on the M40, you would think that people drive with a bit more care, but it never happens.

How many big pile ups have there been when people have been killed and yet still the majority dont change.

I ended up in hospital for 3 weeks and seeing specialists for 4 months after a tw@t on the M4 wasnt watching and rammed my parents car from behind.

IMHO people shouldnt be allowed to drive on motorways until they've taken a separate Mway test renewable after 5 years.

Mway driving is totally different.

The amount of idiots on there are unbelievable and generally the worst are NOT the speeders (generally I said !!!)

Just a few examples.

Drivers who come flying off the slip road to get in the middle lane where they'll sit until their exit.

People reading while driving (God I really HATE that)

Mobile phones (even some of our bus drivers now use them will driving me to the station. I'm no grass but it's my life they are playing with)

Tailgaters

Inside overtakers

People who don't look in the rear mirror - one of the biggest crimes of the lot on an M-way.

I was on the M40 N - bound this morning a few junction up from all this.

So I was listening to ' Fox fm 'to see what was happening, and this chap phoned in to say that teh Police has put out 30mph signs which people we coming accross at over 70mph - Now that is not on..

It was very foggy and you know that accidents have happened but still they ignore them ! I would say they deserve it, but its the poor ba5tards that get squashed in front ( those doing 30mph )..

But ERB, I have to say a I do a lot of motorway driving and a lot of problems are caused by people that simply refuse to pull into the inside lane due to slower traffic being X miles ahead.

This leads to a lot of frustration and people jossling to get into the fast lane which thus becomes conjested. I feel that it simply pisses people off when there is a que in that fast land due to some idiot sitting in the middle and a few take the inside alternative. Just my 2p

Regards,

Paul

Paul that's exactly what I meant by non use of the rear mirrors.

I'd feel much happier if the OB concentrated on poor M-Way drivers rather than those doing a CONTROLLED 85-90 on M-Way

If there was a zero-tolerance attitude to all forms of poor driving on motorways, I'd happily stick to 70mph all the time if that's what it took. A small price to pay, IMHO, but inconsiderate driving as long as it's below the speed limit seems to be OK

This does worry me.

As for people to undertake, well, I have to put my hands up to that one. Do it every once in a while. Why? well it's usually due to the ****** in the outside and middle lanes who just won't move over. Maybe I should flash the lights at them, but I'm a little restrained to do that. I've been on the motorway, and it's be clear except for some *** whose in the outside lane, and they see you coming up behind them, do they move? like buggery do they, so what else can you do? put it this way, you can undertake in the USA and I must admit to having seen some very, very. very bad driving over there, way worse than over here, yet they seem to be able to deal with undertaking. Don't see why it's so much of an issue. just my 2p's worth.

As for mobile phones, grrrrrrrrr, I was nearly taken out by two different people when coming back from cambridge the other day, the reason? they were on the bloody phone, suffice to say I was not impressed. I'm good as I ususally ignore my phone when in the car, the headset is always attached, so if I really want to use it I can, but I don't, even with a headset it's still taking your concentration away. I'd rather miss an important call than take it and kill myself or someone else. I really do think that mobile phones in cars should be banned, or you should be forced to have a hands free kit.

Tailgaters, yeah, nasty people. Suffice to say that we all know that we can drop down to fourth and loose the little blighters, but they'll be back, nipping at your heels sooner than you think I would say use a bit of left foot braking, but I don't as my brakes are at tad too efficent so the ***** would end up shunting me. I don't tailgate people, even those **** who don't move out of the way when other lanes are clear. It does annoy me when someone does it to me though, and most of the time I play ball and let them by, but sometimes I do play with them, well, you've got to haven't you?

I spend 500 miles a week on the M1 between J15 and J8, and the standard of driving is crap.

The amount of drivers i "undertake" is verging on stupid, yet still they stay in the lane!

Middle lane hoggers are bad, but so are Outside lane hoggers every bit as bad, and believe me a lot of Subaru drivers only use this lane!!

It sucks ***!

I agree that undertaking is not in itself a bad thing, the problem with it is that most people just dont bloody look when they pull back in!

I also did some traveling in the USA, and they don't seem to have a problem with it, but then they're far tougher on speeders there.

The police need to clamp down on idiots, not speeders. And by idiots I mean the people who sit in the middle or outside lane while overtaking absolutly nothing.
I saw one woman reading her map while in the outside lane of the M3 last night, huge gap in front of her, prolly 1/4 mile, and nothing on her inside :/

Driving too close is the main cause of accidents, and people just not paying attention. If I have a big enough gap in front of me it makes no difference if I drive at 60 or 90, so long as I pay attention to what the folks I'm overtaking are up to.

Undertaking is only really dangerous if the person is doing it out of impatience, and weaving in and out of heavy traffic. I usually will not undertake unless both inside lanes are clear, that way I have a whole lane between me and the idiot in the fast lane.

I commute every day on the M40 - I'm just glad I had today off, could have been me!

The standard of driving is so poor now, yesterday I was alongside a green Avensis with a real stupid b**** driving. She had a 2 year old kid jumping around the car, going from back seat to front seat, sitting on the centre console, pulling at his mum etc. Couldn't believe it, if she had to stop quickly that kid would have been history.....

Also there was a crappy old blue van being driven by another silly cow. Centre lane doing 65 mph, nothing whatsoever in the inside lane. People like this should be banned as they have no concept of the disruption they cause and the potential for crashes. It resulted in a couple of miles of slowish stacked up traffic, with people restricted to what is now a single lane road (unless you want to undertake). Once past her the road was open and not at all busy so people could drive at 70 in the inside lane and 90 + in theoutside lane without being on top of one another.

Makes me mad as these are the sort of people that will quickly say speed kills, but they are ok because they are going under the speed limit....

I agree that under-taking is OK in certain cicumstances, but what about the ***** that do it without indicating at 95-100+mph. That is one of the biggest hazards on motorways in my opinion.

My wife is taking her test... The written part is difficult. The Driving bit will be easy.... Does this make any sense????

Think of the money this stupid goverment could make and save if they re-tested every 5. years and made the initial test harder.

Luke,
Love the concept, but don't you think the Government takes enough of our hard earned already?

Hi,
I was travelling to site this morning northbound on the M40 and came across this accident as it unfolding, I can tell you It was not a pretty sight This is the worst accident I have ever seen and was very scary to see cars ploughing into each other and more cars heading towards them in thick fog, As I say luckily we were travelling in the opposite direction but the rubber neckers soon started to brake and put our side in danger. I wish people would take more care when the conditions are bad. My condolences to the family's that lost loved ones today.

Well, I passed over the M1 on my way to work this morning in fairly dense fog and could not believe how close people were still driving to each other.

I breathed a sigh of relief it wasn't me down there. It is no wonder accidents happen.[/b]

I went up the M1 from Luton airport last night after being away.
The number of new extreme skidmarks and crash debris over 20 miles was amazing. :0

Regarding undertaking, I thought it was OK as long as you were within the speed limit (and driving with due care & attention)??
