Default Snapped turbo stud nice!!

Right I`m in the middle of badly trying to sort out an engine change, learning as I`m going.

BUT

The engine I`ve ready to go in had a duff stud by the wastegate. Put a stud extractor on it after a long soaking (over night) and she snapped, tacked a weld onto the tiny bit of stud showing and the allen key I`d welded on snapped off leaving the weld and some allen key attatched.

Whats the best way of removing said stud??

Is it a case of grinding the head flat (3-4mm showing at the mo) and drilling the bugger out??

Or is there a better way?

I have new studs coming from Roger Clarke, but the way this is going I`ll be drilling her out and replacing with a nut and bolt.

heat mate, oxy torch, but dont go at it too hard as you might have to re tap it if you do

might still need to weld something onto it though, so you can turn it

Try and grind off what is left of the allen key, get a bolt of a similar size in diameter to the stud and grind the the edges off the thread so its almost got a point on it then welded it to the stud filling the gap with weld give it a good blast with the welder and hopefully the heat from that should be enough to crack it.

Not got Oxy any more, my father used to but had to give his bottles back when he lost his storage licence, and tbh not looked into getting it back.

Yeah will have a go tomorrow, would have preferred it to come off with the stud extractor.

Any problems with using a nut and bolt tho??

As you look at the turbo its the one to the side of the wastegate.
Basically this one.

I`ve welded a bar to it, I`ve welded a bolt to it, nowt will shift it and its only approx 3-4mm showing, so today I ground it flat to the turbo housing, and went to get some drill bits. I`ve 2 Cobalt drill bits now one 4mm and one 6mm, so hopefully they will do the job.

Will have replacement studs tomorrow (should have been today but Mr Postman was being an ****!), so come hell or high water there WILL be a hole there tomorrow (weather permitting).

Then I can get my *** in gear and get this job done, as I have a better understanding on what I need to do lol.
