My car has to go after 4 months ;-(
Well after 4 months of owning my sti it has to go. I never use it and seems a waste of money but love it so much. I'm taking it to my local Subaru Dealer tomorrow. Will be interesting to see how much they offer me. Its only done 14,000 miles

Why don't you use it?, and why are you taking it to a dealer instead of selling it privately?

Seems a shame to get rid after only 4 months. Surely it's not costing you much (barring the repayments I guess). Your tax is still fine, and if you're not driving it much it's not costing you loads in fuel costs?.
If you sell it back to a dealer then you're going to lose even more money than you already have.
Better to sell it privately, even if it is a hassle.

Just bought tax. Cost me £239 for 6 months. I know it does not cost that much but getting rid of my personal loan and a bit of fuel each month could be a fair bit of spare cash each month.
If they are going to offer 10-13k at a dealer maybe I should try and sell it privately.

Jaysus, mary and joseph, 4 months. i know circumstances can change but did you not do your homework before you bought the car. the dealer is going to pull your pants down mate, don't do it. better to sell privately with autotrader or in the local paper.

Basically you bought it not knowing how much it was going to cost to run and now you realise you can't afford it. In fact its skinted you that much your having to sell it back to a dealer urgently rather than waiting a month and selling it privately.

No not skint myself but just thought I'd use it a bit more than I do. After all these posts I'm having second thoughts. I would sell it privately but I hate timewasters who just want to have a drive and have no intention of buying

At least you want to sell yours.
I have to sell mine following a job loss!
7+ years of Subaru ownerhip and its heartbreaking, drove to my local Scoobydealeship to get a quote for a trade in,after the money I have spent on servicing and parts over the years they make you feel C**p.
"sorry sir we do not have much room for stock at the moment".
I really thought the car I had now would be with me for 100,000 miles +
Hence buying new alloys for winter tyres etc.
These cars have been my hobby and its so gutting to think it will be gone soon.
Good luck with your sale mate, maybe you should down grade a bit to a cheaper (older) model,do not be worried about it and use it.
I had a P1 for a while it was so precious I was frightened to park it anywhere in case it got scratched or dinked.

tyre kickers and dreamers are a major pain in the hole mate. unfortunately you will have no choice if you dont want to be *** raped by a dealer, who will offer you peanuts for the car and even smile as he makes the offer. robbin bar stewards.
It is very difficult to weed out these people though as everyone is a potential buyer. Just make sure they all have insurance to drive your car.

keep hold matey, other advantage is you can tune it more agressivley, aka loud exhaust, maybe even strip and roll cage it and you wont have to put up with that day in day out

2. If you buy a car cheaply and sell after 4 months.
To be honest, I wouldn't go near a car where the seller wanted to sell after just 4 months .... people just don't make mistakes like that. Even if it's redundancy forcing a sale, people get a feeling the job losses are coming and don't buy a new car!

After having a read through these posts and having a long chat with my wife I am going to hold on to it for a few more months. You are right lewis, I would be a little concerned buying a car from somebody wanted to sell after 4 months so most people probably would think I was strange.
Do you think my car will depreciate a lot in a year? Bearing in mind its like a new car.
I might treat it to a wash, polish and a coat of collinite wax later when it cools down.
I recently had an afterburner vortex exhaust fitted and a jgm remap so I definitely would have lost a few pounds.

Trade-in values seem quite stable for the later models.
The hatch and 330s seem to be holding their value well, possibly due to their rarity.
I was offered £1k less than I paid for the car 6 months prior, but decided to keep the STi

I would say that Classic cars are holding up very well ..... later cars? Nah .... not a cats chance.
They are rare because they didn't sell many, they didn't sell many because no-one wanted them, things haven't changed ..... throw in blowing engine scares and you've got something falling in value faster than a ****** knickers on payday!

You have made your choice of car and I wish you well with your oil burner, I am sure you will be very happy. I test drove a Civic 2.2 diesel when I was offered a new company car a few years ago, I have to be honest it was not the car for me, I test drove quite a few similar sized diesel cars and I ordered an Audi A3 TDi Quattro in the end.
But please stop rubbishing any car which is not a classic v6 wagon as quite frankly I think it is now starting to bore the masses.
