I'm about to buy a UK 5 door 98 Impreza. The applied model number on the VIN plate is GF8FK8D. The FAQs give the code for an import model as GF8F58D - the difference being the 'K' in the UK code is a '5' in the Jap code.
Is this the same as other UK cars ?
Perhaps you could post your model code and which car spec it is and we can decide what is the correct UK code.

Cloudy,

I have had a MY 98 UK Spec Turbo 2000 for about 6 months, and also have the original bill of sale.

The VIN No begins as follows:

JF1GF8KD3W....

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Shadowfax

Sorry - should have been more specific. I'm not talking about the VIN number itself but the model code - eg GF8G58P

The 7 digit "applied model" code found on the vehicle identification plate inside the engine bay is decoded in the following way.

1=Series code G=Impreza S=Forester B=Legacy etc.
2=Body type F=Wagon C=Sedan
3=Engine type 8=2.0L Turbo
4=Year code A=MY93 B=MY94 C=MY95&96 D=MY97 (facelift) E=MY98 F=MY99 G=MY00
5=Number of doors 2=2 door coupe 4=4 door saloon 5=5 door wagon/hatch
6=Model type 8=WRX 7=RA type E=Sti D=Sti Type R & RA
7=Transmission D=5 Speed Manual AWD P=4 Speed Automatic AWD

Red face

Shadow, you dont really want to post your full vin number on the net, you could end up having someone use that to clone your car etc.
