Interested in this car
Hello everybody,
This my first post!
I found this car on piston heads today

looks like a beauty.
I have been hunting around non stop for impreza sti v8, for a about 3 weeks now.
However, the sale of my car I see a little less cash than I wanted and expected. People seem hard up or I was just impatient
So this leaves me short, to go for a less mileage car.
Is it risky to being an impreza with this mileage, do many of you chaps have a scooby over 90k? I know they are made to last these engines but we all know we don't buy impreza's to do 30mph very much do we!
The last thing I want is to fork out for a engine re-build or something.
I guess this is the risk for any car you buy.
I don't do alot of miles and actually plan to keep this car for many years.
This car isn't anybodies on here by any chance?

I have a similar model. The only thing that would worry me looking at the spec etc is that the engine in the photos seams to be very messy/dirty. The car on the outside seams to be very very clean, but why not the engine??? If you spend the time keeping the outside clean its not much more effort on keeping the engine clean. Especially if your gonna take a photo. I think the way a car is kept ie dirty or tidy says a lot about the car, but that is just my own opinion.

Didn't think of it but true.
I was thinking of getting the name of the last garage, that serviced it etc so I can hopefully find out some hidden serects.
I must have a trust issue
I just got a reply from the seller actually - clutch replacement probably required soon
I suppose that is £400.

Full PPP spec, rare shade of blue ? It's got a Cold air induction from the inner wing so something has been done.
If the full spec isn't listed then he doesn't know much about it, probably bought it, ragged it to death and can't afford to run it.... I'd keep looking.
If you are on your first impreza I'd buy an unmolested one

Also you could service a car twice as much as needed, but don't do basic cleaning of the engine and live say near a beach and you could have a lot of issues. I think a lot can be said for looking at the car in the state it is presented not its history. After all it is called history for a reason!

Looks like WR blue to me which is the colour most come in.
several owners - no necessarily a bad thing, I would be asking if it has a FULL checkable history and when this chap purchased the car.
Re a dirty engine, my engine bay was dirty as hell, oil changed every 5k miles and regular dealer service history so i would not be put off by a grubby engine bay on a 94K mile-er. I would be more concerned if it had just been tarted up to sell.
At 94 k i would be interested to see what has been replaced has it had a recent clutch or suspension for instance. Is it due a big service and do bare in mind serviceing is based on age just as much as miles, you do not want to be forking our for a major service with belts and fluids and it could be to do with why it is being sold - not saying it is but it could be.
Have you tried the FS section on here and the sidc site?

Looks the right blue to me???? Plus it may look a different shade of blue depending on camera!! etc
Go speek to the guy, have a look at the car and if it feels right buy if not don't! There are enough to wait for the one that feels right!

Does seem quite cheap, a full ppp doesn't need a remap in my opinion but there you go,
Just go and have a really good look all over and under it, I'm sure these do have a semi closed deck block so are very strong engines. That milage is fine if it has a full and proper sevice history.

Also not that important maybe but that looks like a HKS blow off vave, not Baileys. The guy doesn't seem to know a lot about the car IMO.

Buy an unmolested version as mentioned above .... plenty about, mostly junk, but some pearls arise now and again ..... patience is your best ploy.

cambelt and big service will probably be due. so add £600-£700 onto the price. I'm sure i've seen this seller's name on other pistonhead adverts??. Seeing that he doesn't really know much about the car and it's mods it probably just a small time dealer.

Still if you bought that i would do both the cambelt and all fluids so you would be near the £600-£700 anyway. Saying that i wouldn't buy it anyhow.

I will stay clear of it I think.
I just have added pressure with not having a car at the moment.
Getting lifts of the girlfriend sucks
blasted cars!!

Great advice from many above IMHO mate. I would honestly say when buying one of these cars whether it be first time or anytime, either buy a totally standard very well maintained one with full documented evidence or if buying a modified one, go for one from an enthusiast owner from a forum like this which has all the right paperwork etc..
I'm always worried when people quote things which prove they know nothing about the car they are selling and what it has had done to it, I think it speaks volumes about the level of care it has recieved.
I also agree with Paul Habgood that an engine that doesn't gleam is definitely not always a bad sign and often can be a good one as there is nothing to hide in there as far as the owner is concerned

I wouldn't trust the advert in the first post TBH. To add to what has already been said, the advert makes you ask more questions than the answers given.
The car Tonys posted is nice, good clear photos, concise history and details.
Also, and this is just IMHO, unless you can afford to spend extra and get a late 54 onwards so you get the wider track and DCCD, then I would just save the money and buy a Bugeye Prodrive (not keen on blobs). Nicely within budget and maybe give you a few shecks left over for a few trinkets.
