The system uses a MAP sensor (Manifold Absolute Pressure) this determines the Air Pressure within the Inlet Manifold. this is where the Simtek gets its measurements.

is the act sensor plumbed in to the original maf sensor plug wiring or does it plug directly in to the new ecu?

can you think why someone would leave this sensor out of the airflow into the engine and leave it up behind the drivers strut but still wired up to the maf plug?

surely all it's doing is measuring under bonnet temps and not the correct air temp going in to the engine?

Seems a bit strange - maybe they forgot to put it in or they could tap the intercooler or pipework for the sensor so left it for you to do.
