hi guys,need a bit of help,i have a 1997 wrx wagon import had it now for about a month and I'm well pleased with it paid a grand for it and just using it as a track car but i have to drive to and from the track.now my problem is the lads that i go with have gone to the dark side
and gone from there sti to Clio's 172 sports now i know these are quick but are they as quick on the track as my wrx and if they are what can i do to get mine quicker i have sorted the suspension with bilsteins any other ideas? carl if your reading this I'm not cheating I'm gathering knowledge

i was watching some rally races on motors TV the other day,think it was in scotland, each time the race that included the impreza, it came last out of 8 cars competing, out of clio`s,escorts,focus,evo`s and a mini !!

yep i guessed that as there mostly made of plastic,I'm after cheap go fast mods,I'm already starting to strip mine,can i just whip the air con motor out with the belt or dus the belt run something else ?

where do you want to start. suspension weighs a ton, interior, door cards, electric windows, carpeting, soundproofing weighs alot (trust its a bastid of a job removing it), front seats weight a good lot, air con you know about, changing the glass to plexiglass, fibreglass doors front and rear. do you have a steel or ali bonnet, changing that to fibreglass save a load too.
Its all a major PITA but does make some gains.

Impreza's have never been a capable track car... they're more A & B road kings (where the not so smooth tarmac trips up these stiffly sprung hot hatches)

stripping starts in the morning,as for doors bonnet well they cost abit of money for a car that i will prob crash in the first hour,so trying to keep as cheap as poss,if any one spots a cheap rear an front strut then let me know and as for buying lees r26 i already have 4 cars rs6,golf gt tdi a rover 214 (for me dog) and the wrx im running out of places to park them

Really? I was under the impresion that the Impreza was one of the best handling cars around!! I have never done a track day and am far from the best driver around so am still only going on here say.

depends on the track, mates 172 was no quicker than my old GTi-6 and my impreza is definatly faster than that. Although on twisty track/roads i still think im quicker in the pug as i havnt got totally use to the impreza.
As said, ditch some weight, sort the brakes, arbs etc or wait for his electrics to fail
