Default Opinions?

Hi Guys,

I spotted this;

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1790659.htm

I've not had an insurance quote yet as I'm weary it'll be silly as it's an import. However what should this come with as standard and I'd appreciate your thoughts.

for 5 grand you could take my classic wrx, its had:-
recent forged engine on cdb cometic head gasket etc
v4 sti heads - engines done about 6k
ty754vb gearbox off a 99 jap import with matching 4.44 diff
fmic
apexi induction
hks ssq bov
440 injectors
de cat exhaust 5" tail pipe
refurbed 4 pot brakes
apexi fc w/ commander boosts 1.3 bar
340 bhp/320 torques w/dyno print out
only needs bigger injectors and turbo to make more power but i would stay under 400 torques on existing gearbox and clutch - oh yeah new exedy pink box clutch when gear box was done a few months back.

So can you tell us why alarm bells ring, and thats a decent price for standard unmolested car. Ive got a v4 sti and would be looking for that kind of money but its not standard. Dont worry about insurance mat as long as youve got some no claims. Me and my missis are under £500 and that is with all mods declared. insuring an import is not as bad as it used to be

Some interesting perspectives, thanks guys.

The problem I have really is I want an STi but not a classic so I'm probably looking at £6k plus but finding one without an inflated price-tag seems difficult. Worse still I'm waiting to sell my car so a few will no doubt pass me by.

If it's a clean and unmolested JDM STi with average miles it's worth 4.5 grand any day of the week..........possibly a bit more if mint

I'm actually confused with what's out there for purchase. The only classic STi's I can see are imports? Is this the case?

True

The only classic STi's are Jap..........in the UK they were called AWD Turbo 2000

The STi only made it's debut in the uk with the Bugeye Model....... WRX STi Type UK

Cheers Shaun!

So if I want a Bugeye WRX STi UK car what am I realistically looking at price wise? I have seen a nice looking car on Pistonheads, sadly I'm waiting to sell mine

When you look at cars which are getting on for 8-9 years old then it's all down to what condition they are in and how well they have been looked after.

Loads of these cars have been modded which does not really add to their value.........just look at the number of cars being broken in the for sale section.

I've got a bugeye WRX (not STi) modded to 400 BHP with maybe 12 grand spent on the engine, suspension and brakes but I guess I'd probably only sell it for £6.5 K as a whole car !!

For a well looked after UK Bug STi with average miles about £4250 is a good starting point, remember they could get £2k on a good day for the gearbox if they tried LOL

Don't pay any more for the PPP

The "Prodrive Style" Bug STi is worth more and the Black Prodrive style worth even more as they only made 100

Any links to the Bug on Pistonheads

This is the car on Pistonheads;

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/1702900.htm

If I could get one of these for less than £5500 I'd be a happy man

Sounds good initially, just confirm he has full service history for the car.

Regarding insurance, I pay A-Plan £520 a year for my 2005 jdm, and they quoted me £580 for a Type UK PPP car before I bought the jdm.
