Top gear tonight £5000 to buy a car that can do daily duties plus be good on the track! HHMMMM now let me think

Probably a version 4 or even a higher mileage version 5 STI type RA, still you will or could have issues with fuel surge on the track, and you would really need to upgrade several components if your doing that sort of work too (brakes for instance, and a swirl pot would be on the "to buy" list )

first thoughts were impreza/evo, then cossie; the m3 and 190 were a suprise for me.
especially the 190, would love one of those

cav gsi, audi s4, when they said it had to be 4 door i got a bit stumped............

Even tho it won, I personally wouldnt of bought the merc, not sure why tho

Cavalier 4x4 turbo if you can find a good one. I had one and had problems with a porous cylinder head and a fragile transfer box. Find one thats been looked after and you,ve got a very good cheap track car.
