Thumbs up High miles on a wrx

Hi all,

just flew over to the UK to buy a wrx with 84K on it and drove it back to Sicily!
Any problems? No. Still on original clutch. These cars are incredible. If its unbashed, these things will go on forever.
I thought I made a massive mistake but I wouldn't have problems buying a high nilage Impreza again.

Cheers all

We had a bog standard UK Turbo wagon on the rollers at the weekend and it hit 235BHP with 134k on the clock, practically the same as when it left the factory in Japan 11 years ago

I'm selling my old Impreza, 1995 WRX but the high mileage seems to put people off. Its got a mixture of KM and miles on the clock (92,000 km and 71,000 miles) so the clock reads 163,000 but is actually 126,000 miles.

This car made 303 bhp / 290 ft/lbs last time it was dyno'd. What other car could you buy for £2200 that would make that power???

High mileage on properly serviced Impreza's is never a problem.

The engines are near on bullet proof.

Even Top Gear recognise that.

Don't worry there are many out there who know that high miles aren't a problem for a scooby................like me now. I'd have no problems........but of course a service history is all important as Leany-g says

It is very irritating as I know it is a good car and has been serviced regularly by me. It has never let me down, it has just got old. I have a stack of receipts for various bits that have been replaced over the years and it flies through MOT's. I priced the car according to what I thought it should be comparing it to the rubbish you see on ebay - its a proven 300bhp car!!

Does anyone think I have overpriced it? Pointless trying to sell it to someone on here as I think this car at this price should be aimed at the first time Subaru buyer. I'd apprieciate peoples thoughts though!!

i don't think the price is to far out, although what i would say is you will stand a far better chance of selling without the graphics, as in my opinion the best way to devalue any car is to cover them in graphics.

Car is very nice and in no way overpriced. You've got a good honest description and will go to a first timer although it will also appeal to a collector too. I'd go for it no probs. Graphics? first timer ok but you will definitely widen your market without. It WILL go, I managed to sell a LHD 2002 bugeye cat c!
Good luck but don't lower the price

Do the graphics put people off that much?? They are very easy to remove. I would do it myself but then it will look just like any other silver WRX. I thought it may be a selling point but now I'm not so sure???

I may well be totally wrong here but the impression I get from people who dont know much about Imprezas is that cars with graphics are owned by the more 'brash' amonst us.

I think people also wrongly attribute brash with an uncaring attitude towards one's car wrongly thinking it may be driven much more spiritedly than may be the case.

Just my impression but I could well be wrong. I like graphics and had to try very hard to control myself with my last Impreza.

I do get what you are saying and my new Impreza won't be getting the graphic treatment as it is a Ltd edition but there are so many plain silver ones out there that it just needed something to lift it above the others.

I am in a dilema now as I thought the graphics may appeal to the younger 'Max-Power' generation but I didn't realise they may de-value the car in the eyes of the Subaru community. I have stated in the add that they are easily removed!!

IMO yes they do to sell your car you need someone who wants a silver car with graphics, there wont be many people out there who will, also putting in the add that they are easily removed will still put people off because if they are so easy to remove why haven't they been removed? it really will sell better with out them.

i would remove them, if a buyer wants them they can add them. I just think it limits your market with them on.

I bet if you come to sell Gino, the mileage won't matter too much. I wouldn't have thought there were many Scoobs up for sale in Sicily!! Do you get to wave at anyone at all??

Be careful. I know of at least two Scooby owners who removed graphics and the lacquer was damaged underneath. By all means use a hairdryer but a hot air gun is better, but check the heat setting. Stubborn stuff can be attacked with meths, I found white spirit to oily and it left a residue. Do the stubborn bits after the hot airgun

Depending on how long they have been on fading may have taken place with the paint.

I managed to get hold of a LHD bugeye in the UK, US import. Re registered it and sold it. It was a cat d and I expalined this to my Italian friend..........as I was selling it for €8000 and only panel damaged, he wrote the cheque out immediately. He drives up Via Liberta, main road in Palermo on Saturday afternoons but puts it in neutral on the run down............saves him fuel! I'm now driving my 85k miles 2003 blue wrx with dark grey graphite wheels and front splitter.........I feel like the mafia's number one!

Having never spoken to anyone from Sicily, I've got to ask this, are you aware of the Mafia there? Does everyone know who they are and try to stay on the right side of them? Or have I watched too many Godfather films??

It's part of the mentality. I live in Corleone! We all know each other, about 11,200 people live in the town. With the crack-down in recent years many families have a relation under investigation or in prison. The main families are known; Provenzano's two sons live in the town, (last boss to be arrested in 2006), the younger, Paolo went to university in Bristol where he got his masters in foreign languages. It isn't mad as it aws in the late 70's and 80's when Riina was around but let me tell you this; before Riina and Provenzano were arrested, (1993 and 2006 respectively), a car has never been stolen in Corleone, no drugs, no protection maney...........now they're behind bars........it's a different story. the politicians and Carabinieri are ruling and THAT is corrupt.......things aregoing down hill. Still a great little town.
