hi all over the weekend i have noticed the smell of burning antifreeze not loosing any coolant but have noticed the top hose is rock hard with the engine hot left it running on the drive today no leeks but smells any help in the right direction, temp gauge is normal and fans kicking in and going off

does sound like hg failure abit mate,scoobs do run alittle hard on the hoses but if there rock hard then she's pressurizing and that ususally only means 1 thing.

there is no signs of coolant and oil mixing is ther any tests you can do

you need to test the coolant for combustion gasses.

yes its called a sniffer test it gets put on top of the expansion tank and draws the air out the system,if there is any co in the coolant then it will change colour from blue to yellow and the oil doesnt have to mix with the coolant for the hg to be gone mate,you could have a track gone from cylinder to water gallery/coolant system.

when mine blew on cylinder 3 it was filling the exspansion bottle right to the top and pissing it on the floor. when i took the heads off it had gone from cylinder to water jacket.

most all garages carry the sniffer test and fluid mate so just call by one or your local and they should do it there and then as it doesnt take long.

will take it in the morning hope its not having new shocks and springs fitted on wednesday

only had the car 2 weeks so will be taking it back again they have payed for new shocks and fitting so i thought may as well have springs aswell
