road or track?
after having a dicussion on another thread i seem to be one of a few who drive at high speeds on the road,
i no its illegal and dangerous and we have covered that part, but wot im interested to no is most of you on here tune your cars and some upto 500bhp +.
but do you keep it all for the track or say for instance if you pulled up next to a evo at a set of lights on a nice straight ( not next to a school) would you have it with him or would you sit and say no this is a track toy i dont want to have an accident and kill someone?
and i mean any speed 80-180mph as once you get over 70mph its illegal whether 5mph or 100mph?
thanks brett

Brett, there are lots more polishers than drivers on the site...there are also lots of self righteous holier than thou types.
Track days let you explore the limits of your car, there is very little, if any opportunity to do that safely on the road.

From: Slowly rebuilding the kit of bits into a car...
I learnt more about my car and it's handling in two track sessions than I did in three years on the road.
Mine does need it's legs stretching up to the limit once a week. I have a nice junction free stretch of 70 limited dual carriageway nearby, that does the job.
dunx
P.S. With greater power comes greater responsibility...

i understand the knowledge you gain from a track and it is a 100 times safer ,

I always thought of myself as being a decent enough driver till I found myself eating kitty litter twice on my first trackday.

This pretty much sums it up TBH, on a track you can push it too the absolute limit, you wont just find out how good your car is you, will also find out just how good you are!

it depends what you mean as you say 80 is breaking the law but far far more safe than 120+ if you have any issues at that sort of speed things tend to get out of control far quicker! that why most police have a 'tolerance' to the limit!
i would track if i really wanted to give it some but have greater satisfaction in knowing that i am as quick if not quicker than the majority of cars on the road rather than trying to prove it

Learned my lesson and paid the price on the road, so now track and airfield only. Infact you can have much more fun on an Airfield training day if you are a rookie track driver. There's nothing to crash into, no hazards and you really will learn about your car and find its limits. There is no way you can re-enact skills learned on an airfield on the public road.

my first track day was one of the best experiences of my life, you really have no idea what the car can do until you get on track. Bedford is an excellent circuit for a first timer; nought to hit really as the run offs are large and flat

its one thing to give i a quick blap down the by-pass but its a bit different
giving it a hard time for a couple of hours

Done my very 1st track day this year at the ring, What an experiance. Was the best fun I have had in the car in the 4 years of owning.
Find drivin the car on the road now quite boaring as its always in the back of ur mind that someone might pull out infront of me and is plod hiding waiting to get me! They could hear many of the scoobs before they seen them, more so when we are givin the cars some beans!

I would be careful what you say http://www.cbc.ca/canada/toronto/sto...iction658.html
Personally I don't need to have monster power to have fun, years of driving classic minis has shown me that.

At least on track theres every chance you'll live if you have an off and hit something hard, as for the road that's a different story all together........
