Default Excellent customer service

Hi all

i replaced my gbox fluid recently after following a thread on here and getting some advice from the guys at Opie. I used the Silktran and ever since have been plagued by not being able to put the car into reverse or first gear properly, sometimes at lights not being able to put it into first at all.

Anyhoooo i emailled the guys at Opie and they got straight back saying that they hadnt heard of any such problem on the Impreza and mainly only on the Evo.

I started to panic a little thinking it was the clutch or gbox itself and saw £ signs spinning in front of my eyes but Tim re-assured my by saying it was more than likely that the fluid is too thin and not slowing the synchros down enough to engage so he will send out some Motul 300 as a replacement!!

excellent eh, most places would palm me i reckon and definately wouldnt send out the fluid free.

Been there n done that! Had Silktran myself for a couple years. Notchy and difficult gear changes. Swapped to Syntrax and superb now. Reverse is always a b1tch anyway! Lol
Recent gear oil change at service made it feel good again.

This might sound a bit daft, but are opie oils the same company that supply packaged lemons in water?

I remember trying SYN 5 in my 99my some years ago and it messed the synchro performance. Got rid of it quick (put it in the wifes Primera's box - worked fine there!)

Interesting they went for the 300, I asumed mine was 300 although I only know it was motul...

Motul 90PA LS SAE90 is what's recomended apparently, perhaps I will bin my new bottles of Syn 5 and go with the Motul 90PA ?ffs!

Syn 5 can be a bit odd. Most of the time it's absolutely fine, but in some gearboxes it's a bit too slippery to slow the synchros and you get crunchy gear changes. I don't think anyone mentioned the problem to me with an Impreza until Baz emailed me, but it's been happening in Evo gearboxes for a while, so I now only recommend it as a diff oil for them. It's odd though as we have tuners buying loads of it and they swear they have no problems with it in Imprezas, Evos, Skylines etc. Seems quite random how it affects one car but not the next.

Glad it's all sorted Baz.

90 PA can be a good choice for keeping the noise down.

Cheers

Tim
