Default AMC subaru chelmsford...talking SH*T or is this for real?

ok, my blobeye STi has undergone a few mods, and remap yestaday courtesy of duncan with some great results.

after which i took my car out for a good thrashing, anyway, getting to the point...

i need new brake discs, so i planned on running the standard discs with some uprated pads. so i made the call to my local subaru dealer, and was shocked when i got told the price. £1250+ for front and rear discs ONLY!!!

is this for real? i questioned it, and then further questioned it saying my E46 M3 wasnt that pricey for pads and discs, and my mates E60 M5 isnt that much either. he said thats correct, and he supplied some to essex police the other week.

can some confirm this? i think that price is a joke, and will never pay that much for stock discs.

thanks, rez

Try Ian Godney at GODSPEED Brakes. A fraction of the price and better quality.

AMC in Chelmsford are utterly hopeless and their prices are insane!!

They wanted £460 plus Vat to program a second key OUCH

And they quoted me £350 plus vat for 1 new alloy wheel :O

Ian does just plain stuff as standard. If you want funky stuff he's good at that too.

Subaru are renown for their "charge the earth" policy.

Be careful if you have a Proven Subaru Warranty. If they know of any mods and the car goes wrong they will fight tooth and nail not to pay up and will invalidate your warranty.

I had to ask them to repeat because I thought i was imaganing things!!

This was when they had just started doing Subarus and they really didnt seem to have much of a clue in all honesty. The parts department kept me waiting for 40 minutes trying to find a price or the alloy wheel and key. Only reason I waited around was because i had not long had the car and it was my first scooby and I didnt know where else to go, needless to say I went elsewhere!

Its more like 400 for the front and 300 for the rears from the dealer, they are taking the p1ss, totally, on the bright side, Ian will do you a set of front discs (grooved) for less than 100 quid

grooved discs are awful you get that winding down sound as you brake i prefer standard looking discs personally.
also had a bad experience with the godspeed discs which has put me right off aftermarket stuff so only go genuine now, it fits first time doesn't go wrong within a week of having them fitted and just basically works
