Default Over-Run with options for Next Car (£7k Budget)

I had planned to get back into an Impreza by trading the Legacy in for a V5/6 Type R, but just out of curiosity checked out what the 6-7k budget would stretch to in other models...

...and i wish i hadnt., there are so many choices... heres just a few...

Version 5/6 Wrx Sti Type R
BlobEye Wrx Sti Type-UK cars
P1's (just)

and going away from Subaru as a marque...
Evo 7 FQ300
Audi S4 2.7 Twin Turbo

I enjoy spirited driving, the occasional track day, but feel like getting something a little newer and more modern might not go a miss, but not compulsory. The Type R does appear to be a good car, but perhaps a lot of money for a 11 r old car, with very little in the way of creature comforts? What do you think!?

Cheers for any suggestions or opinions.
Chris

I remember my old Impreza being a lot better than i am getting now.
My mate has got a B5 facelift S4 Avant, and even that's better on fuel than the Legacy.

Fingers crossed a swap back into Impreza ownership will mean im not at the fuel pump quite so often...

If Subaru, then the newest car you can afford of the type you want! So, I'd go newage unless you want the raw experience that the Type R gives - feels fast only because it's less composed than a good newage. Oh, and I personally wouldn't bother with a P1, unless looks is everything for you - less of a drivers car than a Type R and more money.

It would have to be a type r out of your list, Not a lover of the newage, but i really like the hatch, if it wasnt for all the bad press its had with engine failure...

As yet, no UK hatches with custom maps have spat the dummy.

(Apart from Rob's, but his was pushing 380bhp+ and the garage he used was found to be putting normal unleaded in their super unleaded pumps)

Cheers for the input guys!!

Heart is deffo saying go with the Type R... DCCD, thrashability, rarity value etc

Head is deffo saying go with the Blob... newer, lower mileage, 6speed box, futureproof

**seem to remember that the DCCD did come on the 6sp Blobs, was it an option or only on some models, because if DCCD was on the Blob too it'd probably help to sway my heart over, lol**

And as much as i hate to say it, the S4/EVO are looking quite good value in that list too, tricky one for sure!!

Just an another question, what are the differences between the blob type uk and blob jdm sti?

Might be able to stretch budget a little higher for the right car. worth the extra for a jdm car?

Do you mean the Blob or Bug? £6/7k seems too cheap to me for a Blob STI!

If the JDM Blob comes with Twin Scoll and DCCD-A thats a mega thumbs up from me... think i need to try n stretch the budget to as close to £8k as possible :/

Agree with the newest you can afford mentality, i didnt, but have kinda seen the light. The Type R is the perfect car for me IF i had a sensible daily runner... but i dont, so i need it to be quick, fun, and a little sensible when it needs to be.

And yes, you can get UK Blob Sti's for about £6500-£7000, cheapest JDM Blob Sti i have seen so far is listed at £8240 though, assuming £7700 cash would be a mighty tempting offer, just need to get everything in order and go shopping now

JDM Bugeye STi Sportwagon for that sort of money if you can find one. Quick and very practical as standard not to mention reliable and with a very strong bottom end. Rare as rocking horse drops!!
