Changing from my2000 with PPP to P1
#1
I have the known problem with surging on my my2000 with PPP and driving enhancment and after much correspondence with my dealer a have been left with option which I am undecided. My dealer informs me that there is no problems with the P1. Has anyone noticed a difference in performance or any other aspect. I have one on loan this weekend which has 100 miles on the clock, so I am unable to give it some stick. Any comments!

My P1 definately has an ECU "characteristic" of hunting which I could call surging on odd occasions. Only when cold, after a day parked outside, pull out of the works car park and then proceed up a steep hill trying to keep within the 30mph limit. It doesn't do it everytime, I would say probably only a handfull of times in the 10 months of ownership. It seems to be a combination of cold, and the steep hill immediately.
I have only driven a PPP equipped car once and that was a year before taking ownership of the P1 so comparisons are vague. The PPP certainly impressed me on the MY99 with its low down torque.
In comparison I bought a P1 because of the overall package. The engine is totally different in character in my opinion with an extra 1000rpm to the red line and better balancing to match. The way it will readily scream to the red line if you wish is a big plus as I felt my previous MY97 got a bit harsh above 6000rpm. On top of the engine you have the different handling which took getting used to and it was only after I had run the thing in and was able to push did it all come together. Along with all of this can you live with only two doors and a rear seat that does not fold? Plus that front spoiler is low!

Steve,
I have found this also....however only when I've been down to circa 1/4 tank of SUL Other than that mine seems to be squeeky clean
Neil,
As and when you change...give us a call and we'll see if we can sort a decent quote for you on the P1 Scheme
All the best

That is exactly the effect I am talking about when I mentioned the hunting. On odd occasions (and again I strees I have probably only seen it about 5 or six times in the 10 months of ownership and I always go home this way) it feels like there is no go...but then it sort of recovers but then drops power again then recovers and then drops...etc until I get to the top of the hill. From then on everything is fine.
