Impreza Diesel?

Impreza Diesel?
Are there any Impreza Diesel owners on here, I'd be interested in hearing about your experiences with it.
I'm considering changing my Lancer Ralliart Sportback for something more economical as it only gets 22mpg...
Can you chip the Impreza Diesel? I'm not sure I could live with *only* 150bhp
I didn't like the new shape Impreza but I have to say they are really growing on me. I'm also considering the A3 diesels but there are loads of them on the road, I prefer something a little more unusual
Ta.

Subaru diesel boxer can be chipped to 185bhp, torque I'm not so sure of.
Also there was a garage who was spec'ing up their diesels with WRX PPP styling etc..
Someone who knows more will be here shortly (SimonC for example)

I have ran mine for 14 months and 15 k miles now wr blue with gold gt1 wheels sti rear spoiler and grill , tints and carbon trim along the bottom doors
I love it to bits
Performance is great although it takes to 12k and first service to loosen up a bit 1&2nd gear waste of time 3rd is when it gets exciteing 4th is outstanding for mid range torque 40-100mph and is as fast as my green classic turbo which I still have and we have tested it back to back on my duel carriageway drive and there is no difference in mid range performance top speed 130+
economy ist 10000 miles 44.3 mpg and last 5k miles 45.3
although 50mpg is easily obtained over long 200 mile journeys most of mine are short fast 10 mile blasts
500 to every tank @£63-65 to fill up against 240-260 with the classic
Talk to mike /Steve at Stan palmers Carlisle or Ian Armstrong who has now moved to conders Subaru for best prices and finally £155 tax for the year
£230 first 12 service ( no cambelt ever)
And £280 insurance .

I bet the engine is a tough as old boots and well capable of a bit more than 185bhp with a remap. I think EcuTek dealers can remap them.
I've no doubt you can spice things up with a better air filter and exhaust. Turbo is a turbo but i think name of the game with diesel is torque rather than bhp.

As mentioned earlier mid range torque is fantastic
we also have a 350z running 276bhp as well as the classic std apart from filter and decat and there is nothing between all three cars on the motorway
power is amazing you just have to slow up earlier for the corners otherwise you become a bit seasick compared to the classic

Not being rude to all the owners above but i really don’t get the Subaru tdi, i have just ordered a skoda vrs as a running mate for my track day weekend Hawkeye and i considered the Subaru however. The Subaru is around 3k more, has worse fuel economy, down on power, down on equipment, audi build standards, much less tuneable (vrs is 170 out of the box and can be remaped to 210-230 for £500) i
Have I missed something do they drive that well to make up for the difference in spec ?

Skoda VRS is a great car
I assume we are talking octavia rather then the Fabia ?
Before my wxd I ran an octavia L&k for 6 years and averaged 55mpg great car but when I changed my job I just didn't need an estate / big hatch but for 18k lot of car for the money
My wrxd was just under 23 k and they have went up 2k since I got mine , but I only change my car every7-10 years so I got the spec I wanted

I was wondering about that too with the 2011 modles about to hit the shores and no sign f a sti diesel yet
The future is performance diesels as fuel will continue to rise and subarus struggle to get 28 mpg the switch will be to 45 mpg performance cars with great handleing and looks

The problem Like i've allready highlighted is the dual mass flywheels, unless suabru ditch this and fit a solid one you wont be able to push the horsepower boundarys as the dual mass ones simple drop to bits

If i had the choice i Would have to have the subaru diesel before the skoda. However ive been in the skoda octavia 4x4 and this was a good comfy car with decent poke for the size and weight of it...

Thanks to everyone for the comments and the info on PM.
I managed to get a test drive in a diesel RC last Sunday. There were some good bits and some bad bits, and no I won't be getting one.
To start with it didn't look as nice in the flash as on the internet, although it did remind me of my Mazda3 MPS from the side, which was good(ish).
Started the engine and lots of interior trim started to rattle, the car had only done 500 miles. Interior seemed quite cheap and I didn't like the plastics used for the dash and door trims.
Engine was lovely and torquey a real surprise, I've not had a diesel for a while so had to remind myself to change up earlier
Another negative is that there is no sat-nav option, and since having the Ralliart I'm a fan of sequential shifts and flappy paddles, but I could live with a manual again if I had to
All-in-all I'm glad I drove one as otherwise I would have always been wondering about it.
I think if I *had* to have a diesel it would be the Impreza, much rarer than all the A3s I see around. And I guess a headunit swap could be done to get sat nav and bluetooth.
Not trying to upset any owners on here, just giving my opinion

If you decide to go down the vRS diesel / DSG route be sure you try the box in sports mode, I looked at new vRS diesel estate with DSG gearbox and I wasnt keen on the gear box taking the engine to the redline in every gear before changing, OK for a petrol but diesels run out of steam before it reaches the redline.
Skoda waiting list for new cars are a joke at the moment, friend ordered L&K at the end of July, manufacture date has been confirmed as week 13 2011 !
Whatever you decide to get have fun.

Had my 2010 Legacy diesel for a couple of weeks now
Only 500 miles, so not run in, but so far so good.
Plenty of go in second, third, fourth
50 mpg on motorway / fast A road
46 mpg on A road / town
no hunting for super unleaded
bit underpowered on occasion maybe, but the Leg is a big car ( now )
Pretty exclusive club too!
