Default What should I check when buying a >10 yr old Turbo 2000?

Hi, I haven't been on here for many years so a bit out of touch with the cars and marketplace. The time has come at last and I am going to buy a turbo within the next couple of weeks but on a pretty limited budget (about £3k). So when going to view what are the key things I need to be aware of?

I assume service history is more relevant than mileage? What are the mechanical things to check (and how do I check them?)? Where are the bodywork and chassis problems likely to be? Should I be going for a professional inspection or will be be easy enough to tell the difference between a good and a bad one?

I have had a look through the ad's on here (and Pistonheads & Autotrader) - seem to be a fair few to choose from and a big spread of prices - I just don't want to buy a dud!

Sorry for all the questions but and advice will be greatly appreciated

rust: rear arches, front arches, around the windscreen !!!! alot go there and on the rear. crash damaged on front and rear, water holds is the boot passenger side, where the jack lives(although not a big prob still worth looking out for) take it for a drive ur notices if its not running right, it just wont feel right, P.S alot of classic gearboxes are tight to get into gear.and crunch into reverse.

On any performance car, its got to have good service history, if its not got a book full of stamps and invoices walk away.
