All i wanted was a induction kit ;-(((((
Hi guys
i have just had a complete decat fitted on my 2006 wrx hawkeye and have just bought a induction kit however i am being told i have to pay up to £700 for a remap???
I have spoken to Simon (jolly green) who remapped my type r:thumb who has confirmed i will have to remap the car but is there any other way i can get round this without forking out £700??? can i buy a remapped ecu and fit it???
Is there a cheaper way round or do i have to put myself on the corner??
Thanks in advance

That sounds like you are having to pay the licence fee for the ECU. Would you not be cheaper (but not by much) buying a mapped ECU then getting it re-mapped for the car? Not sure you will be saving that much but there's no getting round needing a bespoke map for your car.

For newage cars there are many remapping options. The local specialist to me does loads of work on Imprezas. They looked after mine for years.
Anyway, here is a link to what they do for ECUs, you could always give them a call and see what they can do for you.

It may be worth the drive to save some of the cash. The figures you are talking of seem extremely high. You can have a new ECU mapped for your car for only £1k. That would leave you with your standard ECU so that when you come to sell your car you can swap them back and sell on the aftermarket one.
There will be other places that do this sort of work, I just know and trust the ones I gave you a link to. Personally I had a new ECU on, let me have two maps, one for the MOT and one for power. Sold the ECU for £450 when I was finished with it...
That meant overall it only cost me £550 and I had the benefit of a full replacement ECU, not just an Ecutek remap.

Never used them, but that's the sort of figure that sounds a lot more reasonable. There is enough margin in that figure for the mapper to do a good job and still make a nice profit for their efforts.

I can live with that, so is it my induction kit or the decat which is why i need a remap?? as i have fitted my decat already and useing the car...infact i gave it a bit of a beating yeasterday as bumped in to my brother in his 2003 sti and we were evenly powered as he could not take me
Am i causeing any issue driving it with without the remap??

Actually, I forgot to mention that Impreza MAF sensors are known not to like induction kits. It can often cause issues with your MAF sensor. A replacement aftermarket ECU such as a Simtek (new or second hand) that is then mapped to your car is the better option.
You will be able to get a temperature reading from your manifold when using this bypassing the need for a MAF sensor at all. This will be both more accurate, and cheaper in the long run as you won't be changing out your MAF sensor - mine went through two in years with a standard induction system Not to mention that more accurate means more power

Mapping stuff like this is racedynamix's bread and butter......
http://www.racedynamix.com/new/
hould be about £350........... IIRC
The newage MAFS are pretty robust and can cope with the extra vibration of an induction kit.
