CHECK ENGINE - Dashboard light??????
Hi guys I need everyones advice on this please! I have a 1996 v3 impreza sti redtop!
I've currently put a walbro 255 fuel pump into my car, to be honest my car loved it, sounds and runs smoother!
Anyway, I had the car in Wallace Performance for a power run on Friday, was pretty please it's running 300bhp on the dot!
Since the weekend, my ' check engine ' dash light keeps randomly coming on but the weird thing is it goes off after a few seconds! never on when I start the car it just happens when I'm driving!
Anyone think it could be because of te fuel pump??
my car was also changed from low boost to high boost and is running at just over 1bar!
ANY IDEAS?? I'm worried
cheers Adrian

Is it running the standard ecu if so you can check the error codes http://www.scoobypedia.co.uk/index.php/Knowledge/ECU.
If it isn't then perhaps the CEL acts as a knock warning (my Simtek ecu does this)

From: If you rev it, they will come!
You need to get your head under the dash below the steering wheel and find the black and green test connectors. If they've been used before they'll just be dangling there, if not they'll be taped up by the steering column.
Connect the black ones and switch on the ignition and your check engine light will flash a combination of long and short flashes which you can count, the number will relate to a fault code to give you an idea what the problem could be.

I would find out how it's running 300bhp (as this is above the Subaru stated power).
Yes the light would be on constantly but even a quick flash would leave an error code as far as i know.
You can try ther manual reading of the codes but if there aren't then plug in a Select Monitor to check voltages, sensors etc.

the cars running 300 on te dyno fri! it's got a full chnged 3" hks exhaust not decat, upgraded induction, with engine rebuild and walbro 255 but maybe more done! also has a greddy spec2 boost controler fitted with boost gauge if that makes a difference!
thanks for the info guys, I'll try ALL aspects!
does anyone know what the original bhp for my car would have been????

Upping boost and running an induction kit would lean out AFR's with the factory standard ECU. It may be seeing some knock as a result and throwing a temporary CEL.
It's making 300 with just 1bar boost?? Is the ECU chipped??

hi mate war do you mean ' it's gonna lean out afr's??? ' is that damaging?? sorry I'm not most up to date with these things!when I had it in for the rolling road I'd been running it 'low' boost for a year but the guy has left if on 'high' boost and it's running like a weapon now!
Yea mate 100% 300 bhp at 1038 bar! that's what the print out says! As far as I'm aware the ecu has not been chipped! does this sound peculuar??

sounds like it needs mapping. im surprised who ever built the engine didn't get it mapped, its asking for it to go bang. perosnaly i;d drive it as little as possible till you can get it looked at.
best bet get it to someone that knows what there doing with scoobs and get them to put it on a dyno and see whats going on rather than just getting a power figure.
AFR = air to fuel ratio
to much air aka runnging lean, will basicly melt the pistons.

Not bar they're quoting but millibar although it is just over 1bar.
You've said it's a V3 on a 1996, of which there are a few about. If that's the case and you have a 3plug ECU and you cannot remap it, just yet.
This is the reason i asked if it's chipped is because i don't think a V3 STi can make 300 just with just a few bolt-ons and no remap.
Equally you say it's probably had a lot more done. Untill you know exactly what your car does and doesn't have added you have a bit of an unknown quantity.
Is the exhaust just cat back or fully decatted? Standard Turbo? Injectors? Which induction kit, std or uprated top mount or aftermarket front mount intercooler etc...etc...
I'd think about going back to low boost setting for now until you really know what the score is.

hey guys, with regards to the engine going bang, I don't think that's the case because when the car was in for the power run I asked loads of questions and the guy said to me from the graph that the engine is running great and the greddy boost is set up fine! I'll phone Wallace performance back see if they have any ideas!

Any ideas what these connectors do? I know there is also the two green connectors up in there, disconnected. These two were connected and wonder should they be? There is red and White wires from them and have two blade contacts on the male end, one sat horizontal and one vertical.
