You considered a 2.5? Just had one put in mine and the difference in low down torque is amazing!

nice mate im jealouse haha
well thought about an engine swap , but been quoted 1680 to re-build mine with 5 years warranty which im quite keen on for piece of mind !
i would imagine a 2.5 to be a bit more than that is it ? is it straight forward swap ?

i dont mean to put a dampener on it, but i would extremely wary of any place that offers a 5year warrenty on a rebuilt engine, i suggest you remember the name of the place and do a good search on the internet before you part with you hard earned.

I didn't use them for mine but have heard good things about Area 51/Scooby mania's 2.5 deal of fitted drive in drive out for 2550!

My engine was built by Andy Williams Motorsport - he often has engines etc. on eBay and will do an exchange deal or even remove/refit for around £350!

well the warranty is only valid if all the servicing is carried out there . yeah ok 50 mechanics was a slight exageration but i would say literally 25-30 its a huge place ! very tidy workshop got good impressions from the place . but i know what u mean about being careful ,its taken me a long time to get the money and needs to be done right ! im not gonna jump at it without researchin abit further ! cheers for your advice

I'd be a bit suspicious of an engine re-build for £1600.

It does, of course, depend on how much work needs to be done, but I wouldn't be expecting much change from 2.5k for a rebuild back to std.

I know that's not what you want to hear, but with engine builds, it's definitely a case of get the job done right first time, pay once! Might be worth speaking to David at APi.

Good luck, mate!

Find out their name and talk to Trading standards quickly. The 5 year warranty is useless.

Have a read of http://www.apiengines.com/cust_ser.php

Hayes / Hounslow, West London is deep in bandit territory for engine repair companies. Most of them are connected in some way to ' Heathrow Engine Centre ' who make SMR look like honest skilful technicians...................

David knows what he is talking about. He is one of two men on Scoobynet who I would stake my life on as honest.

That's NOT to detract from others on here, just support for David.

well i had vf34 turbo with u/r fuel pump, pinks up pipe fitted by stuart at tfs racing . and shortly after that as in next couple of days !! it started blowing clouds out the pipe so i took it bk to stuart ,he took it for a spin and straight away said no doubt about it piston ring failure i know he knows a thing or to about scoobs to say the least and have taken his word for it ! as for the uprated oil pump and modine ?? why ?

if you've had engine failure mate then it is just routine to change the oil pump and modine but also a good idea to go uprated on the pump if your going up in power

Isn't a 2.5 short block around 1500 on it's own ?

Regarding rebuilds, from the respected companies on this forum, assuming all the work and recommendations are carried out (oil/fuel pumps, injectors, mapping, etc) by one place, what is realistic in terms of aftersales care ?

Would it just be parts failure ? (given usual caveats about wear and tear and track use)
