yeah, i agree there. i dont know if they will be less or more reliable than a scooby. Issues iv had i think anything is more reliable right now. Love my scoob. but time time move on for a while i think. And these cosworths keep going up in value. more like a investment

The build quality on thos old 3 door cossies is not that good, then you've got the cracked dash syndrome & the trim parts are impossible to source, its an old car now.
I personally love them, however, realistically, they are way too much grief to have one a as a daily driver. I would want a mint one & they are a lot of cash, then if you do buy a good-un, do you drive it daily & reduce the value of it?
I think if you have money to burn & are going to garage it, only to be used on sunny days, then I can see it being a decent investment. If you plan on using it regularly, I would buy a newer scooby.

Agree with above, I have one but only used on classic insurance so less than £200 a year and only used in good weather. Good fun to drive but not easy to get parts for nowadays. Don't think I could ever get rid though. Defo not one to be used as a daily driver. Better mpg than the scoob though, although thats not hard to achieve.

Always had a love hate relationship with my cosworth. When it worked it was epic! But that wasnt very often. I went from cosworth to classic impreza and then onto newage.
I think going from a subaru to a cossie will be dissapointing.
They were great in the day but things have progresed.
Budget for never getting to your destination without problems of some sort.
The bits in between will be fun though! but really they are for shows and polishing, not something you can use.

Cosworth's are fantastic cars (When they work) and continue to rise in value (Even Sapphire's)
I have had 2 of them in the past and both kicked me in the teeth and ran off with my wallet
Try and buy the best you can afford. Most sub 10k cars will be trouble.
If you do want one the the best place to find a good one would be the RS Owners Club. (Of which, I am on the committee) Registrars name for the 3 door is Colin Newbury and a very nice chap.

Can't agree more, better than money in the bank. Sold my Escort cossy 2 years back, and sorely miss it. Never had a car that had so many positve comments. And with the Woodford 380 conversion it could really shift. Deffo have another one, when i find a good one, and there in lies the price difference with classic cossys of and model.

Mate of mine has got an absolutely mint black Escort Cosworth(400bhp). Always like cossies, 3 door and escort but never fancied owning one. After seeing Daves though, if I had cash spare for a weekend car then maybe, just maybe

The early Sierras had a lot of well documented head gasket problems so make sure there is a reciept for an uprated one.A good modification is to get a wire ringed head gasket and head studs to replace the bolts

Tuuuuuuurbo lag both mine were stage 1 tuned (300ish) 2wd are the better cars. They can be widow makers in the wrong hands especially in the wet as the only driver aid is abs.
Raw and exciting cars to drive with street cred a plenty.

Guys, subarus and cosworths are not unreliable - it years of modifications, getting thrashed and accidents that cause them to have problems.
I used to own a 16yr old WRX - the only thing that needed changing was the clutch.

I still think you are jumping out of the fire & into the frying pan. A cosworth Sierra is going to be harder to get parts for, especially the bits that wear out, like trim. You would be better off with a newage scoob or how about an M3?

i kno what ppl are saying with reliability. but i think im after a nice clean example. not about speed or modding now. just a car il smile when polishing. take my time and show it off. cant be worse that my scoob issues. id do love my scooby, and no doubt will eventually come back. still not sold mine yet tho, only issue is, when i drive it i love it. but lost faith in it.
