survived disaster!!!!
hi all just thought i would share horrifying experience!!!
on friday i took my scooby to oldham (90 miles) drove like a dream there and didnt miss a single beat
drove around local obviously showing off with ani lag and all the usual haha
following day started my car and drove another 10-15miles and when i parked up it started smoking really bad under the bonnet and i could smell oil burning
tbh i nearly **** myself
i turned it off and tried to identify what it could be!i could see quite abit of oil had been dripping on the headers
luckily my uncle (the mechanic, normally does all my car work) came and told me it was the front crank seal and he could sort it on monday as no suppliers would be open for the crank seal
he remembered he changed his rear crank seal last month and he definately had a front crank seal
so,i drove to the garage/breakers yard where he works which he very kindly opened for me at 10pm last night on our christmas and started stripping it
after replacing it, he started the car and one of the cam seals was p**sing oil out
nothing to worry about,my uncle had a spare cam seal aswell
btw i had a wander about and there were tons of engines on the shelves for sale if anyone interested (seen quite a few CDB knocking ones aswell)
now back to the boring bit,
after replacing the crank seal and cam seal he put it back together and noticed a hole in the fmic piping where the radiator had rubbed against it
nothing to worry about again,he did some magic and fixed it
after putting it all back together he started it,but it was still smoking really bad,he told me not to worry as its just the oil on the manifolds but he wasnt happy with the amount of smoke
THE MOST TERRIFYING MOMENT: car caught fire!!!
managed to extinguish it...it was the oil that was in the heat wrap!!!
luckily no damage what so ever to the car after quick thinking of my uncle.
he took the heat wrap off and im VERY glad he did as under it was glowing bright orange so anymore contact of oil from the heat wrap would have set it alight! (i had to drive through snake pass and would dread to think what i would have done if it did catch fire with my family init)
2hours later my scooby was finally done (crank seal, cam seal and fmic piping all sorted) o and he managed to spray the rear diff silver and rear roll bars, links and few other bits black
i was very fortunate this time and can't thank my uncle enough for doing a rapid repair free of cost and not letting me drive it back to nottingham with leaking oil!
p.s im ordering a mini fore extinguisher just in case
