Default Total 97 octane?

What's it like? How does it compare with V-Power? If I HAD to use it, how much octane booster per litre would I need, since my car is mapped for V-Power?

I cant tell any difference between the two petrol's what so ever! I've always run mine on 'Total' as it's my nearest station. When I took my old STI to be mapped, I filled it up with V-Power. The company mapping it said I had s*** fuel and for that reason couldn't get the best out of it. I carried on using Total and some stops put V-power in, it made absolutely no difference what so ever.

There are a lot of people on here with a lot of different ideas on fuels. To my way of thinking, using a lower octane than the car is set up for will cause some degree of knocking and therefore damage the engine. How much the 'damage' will be I have no idea, maybe it just falls under the umbrella of engine 'wear and tear'. I have an import Sti which I religiously run on V-power but that's probably because I don't know any better. Mine hasn't been remapped for UK fuel so maybe my own ignorance on this matter will be to the car's detriment.

Anyone have any experience with Tesco's new premium fuel? Supermarket fuels used to be lower quality but it comes out of the same refineries now anyway. Is there an arguement for using V-power on the basis Shell claims to put a cleaner additive in the fuel I wonder?

I use both V-Power and Tescos 99 with no preference either way.

The one to avoid is BP Ultimate, can cause the Knock Analyser to get a bit excited (I assume you've got something fitted to monitor det?).

Never used Total, so can't comment on that but 100ml of NF should add about 2 points.
