Hi there,
I live near Southampton and run a legacy oilburner! (someones got to) It`s a great family car and I am a family man. However it`s not quite enough and I need to get on with my mid life crisis, so I really want a wrx sportswagon. So excuse me if it has been asked before, but 2.5l hawkeye or 2l 05 plate ? Your opinions greatly appreciated; thanks

Really don't think that's overly true, in standard form the 2.5 seems fine, early hatches seem to have an issue but it's suggested it's the map. Once you start playing with more power then the 2ltr JDM is the one although there are plenty of tuned 2.5 including my own running around with no problems

Having gone from a tuned 2.0 WRX running 370 BHP to the same car with a 2.5 conversion (still on running in map) I'd say get the 2.5 unless going for mega power, the low down torque makes it a much nicer car to drive on the road imho. 2.0 would be a better track type car. I'd suggest you drive both!

A 2.5ltr maybe better as a road car but it has potential for issues, moreso than the 2ltr.
Even in standard form the 2.5ltr has a chequered reliability record and I am not even referring to the later Hatchback "mapping" issue.
If you have the choice.... I would stick with the better reliability of a 2ltr, even if that means you need to sacrifice some torque lowdown.
Your choice and your cash though.
