Too cheap to be a scam (i'd have thought), so are they really going for this price now?

Trouble is you never know what your buying with an irish plate on it.

I see hundereds of badly smashed car head over the water to be sorted up & registered on an irish plate.

But then again thats not to say this is a genuine car & as long as all the paper work add's up it could be a good buy for someone.

It's a realistic price that's how much there selling for. I just sold one with lower miles for £17500 so £16500 bang on the money.

i've seen quite a few now in the £17,000 bracket,i feel sorry for the people that bought them brand new as they will lose a fortune if they want to sell.

I guess the new buyers have to take into account an engine rebuild hence the budget of 15-17k.

I only paid a few k more than that 18 months ago for an 08 with 5k on the clock so is probably about right, 1k depreaction a year and a std model so looks a fair price, enigine woes aside its a hell of a lot of car for the money!

What's that supposed to mean? Because it doesn't follow the mainland xx nn xxx sequence it's going to be trouble. And as far as i am aware Northern Ireland is still part of the United Kingdom, so it's not an Irish plate.

its in inverness so has to be cheap to get potential buyers to travel, thats my take on it anyway.

every cheaper car you see tends to be from scotland

You can pick up hawk STI's now for just over 10k (not that many but they are around) so would imagine that a base spec hatch with average/high mileage will be sitting at about 14k in another year or so

Plus it's £425 per year to tax unlike a lot of other hot hatches..........which is all these are now,and "only" 265bhp as standard.

If it were my money i'd spend a little more and buy an Focus RS!

300bhp as standard and for atleast 4k less than the RS its a bargain.

There is not much out there that will keep up (and go past an RS), still be driveable in the wet, seat 5 adults and is only 3 years old and and and...

Was not saying it's no good in the wet I'm sure the RS is more than capable in most conditions but the Hatch is quicker, around the TG track anyway and is an extreamly practicle car also.

Oh and forgot to say the RS was my first choice over the STI which is why I held onto my old Hawk until they came out, when they did though they were just not practle enough and I was not prepared to pay 30k for a car that did not suit all my needs, was prepared to live with 2 doors but the fact it only had 4 seats made it unrealistic, they also went up by £1500 between taking orders and the car being available to view which I thought was taking the pi$$. Overall I was not that impressed with them for the price tag, saying that though there is still a voice in the back of my head that keeps popping up from time to time, enough for me to check out pistonheads anyway LOL!!

Just using the RS as an example of what i would rather have in a similar price bracket, and i don't know about you,but my daily commute doesn't take in the Top Gear test track so that's of no real importance to me personnally.

Also, that RS that was a similar price to the Subaru new is still potentially worth upwards of 20k whereas the Impreza is worth a good chunk under 20k year for year,so while "it's no good in the wet" it's bloody good "for residuals"

Don't get me wrong,i love my current scoob for what i was looking for when i bought it,but they aren't the be all and end all of my motoring career or other peoples, and back to my initial point,i just wouldn't pay £400+ to insure what is ultimately a small family hatchback (or anything else for that matter) that just happens to be fitted with a reasonably powerful engine..........plenty of other marques manage to put powerful engines in their cars and keep them in sensible tax bands, and until Subaru catch on and do the same, they will always be a minority choice!

If for example the new twin turbo V8 that will be fitted in an increasing amount of new merc's can manage 429bhp,516lb ft of torque and is fitted in something that weighs well over 2 tonnes yet falls into band K - £235 per year, why can't Subaru reduce the emissions on their engine to be more competetive like Mazda have done with their engine in the 3 MPS?

IIRC when I was looking for similar spec RS v STi new the RS came in at about £30500 and the STI could be had for about £26000, 4k/4.5k difference new so not that far of the mark right as I've seen RS's for 20k now so going down realative to each other.

I know what your saying about the emissions but think how much your paying for a merc to save £200 a year in road tax, as for the MPS, agree 100% but I bet (i don't know for fact) that the engine used in that is used across a few brands and models and has been put in 50x more cars than the 2.5 boxer, hence more development than the boxer and it being a better engine, for emissions anyway.

I very nearly threw in the bucket when the tax went up to £400, my old hawk was March 06 so I was just in the old band and was not prepared to pay anymore, then I figured it was only an extra £16 a month and was not going to let that spoil my enjoyment of owning a Subaru, across the 3 years I will own the car an extra £600 is a drop in the ocean. I'd rather pay that and have a car that puts a smile on my face.

Anyway a little off topic, all I was trying to say that for 16k its a lot of car for the money, 33k for the new one I'm not too sure, personally I'm waiting to see what the new Subaru in 2012/2013 is like (possible impreza replacemnet) or the next gen Focus RS, 4WD with electric RWD when needed!

That's a very general sweeping statement about not knowing what you getting with a northern Ireland uk plate. I'm sure there are even more badly looked after car on the mainland tbh.

There were cars coming over from the republic of ireland that were right off's, getting fixed up then registered over here thus loosing the history, don't think it's the same with NI as it's still the UK so no different to buying a car from the mainland

i wouldnt give them the steam off my p1ss for the car that subaru designed whilst on a large amount of drugs to single handedly destroy the companys reputation and sales figures lol they really are the biggest mistake subaru ever made. (even the bug eyes are better than this at least they are available as a saloon lol)
