Seems pretty flaming quick to me as a sub 8min lap bridge to gantry with traffic. Although a couple points are edited to external cam view.

Yes the Spec C Type RA was sub 8mins (just) on a closed track.
As Juggers has said the time set by the Type20 is quite modest. Whilst he is certainly getting some where to being "on it", the times would undoubtedly be a fair old whack quicker on a clear track had they been going for any proper time. This was just for testing purpose during a public track day iirc, seeing how the new chassis and turbo set-up went. Looks like it goes pretty good for a road car set-up to me!

One car they never lapped the nurburgring in is the type RA-R which i think is quicker then then the new 7.55 saloon. The type RA did it in under 8 minutes in standard form. The ra-r had an extra 50bhp brembo 6 pots at the front and 18"alloys with more grip.
The new saloon was striped out with a roll cage and had all the goodies on it and only managed a time of 7.55 on a clear track day.
What you guys reckon is the RA-R the fastest production impreza to ever leave the factory?

The Driver in the video was Richard Meaden from Evo Magazine. He really enjoyed the car and “The engine and chassis are mega”
As Shaun says, we did not go there to set times just evaluate the changes we have been making. There was way too much traffic and the day had frequent rain showers to consider anything more serious. You can’t see it clearly on the video but the track is really quite greasy in certain places. We got loads of valuable information and I hope to go back soon for more fun......I mean testing.
Spen555 the tyres were the new Pirrelli's which we had been asked to try. They were amazing, even in the wet weather they were very predictable. Will probably offer these as a option.
It does give you a idea of just how fast Tommi Makinen must have been peddling the “standard” Spec C to do a sub 8 minute lap

Funny you you should say new Stig, I asked him if he'd like to drive my other hatch
Not sure what time it would do if all things were perfect and we had a 4 times world champion behind the wheel but I'd like to think with more power, bigger brakes and a better chassis we'd lay down something quick

No graphs at the moment the car is 410bhp so only slight up on the last Type-20. We concentrated on more response. Most of the changes we were testing were to the chassis
