Not just a bit of tape over the front of it that you've not noticed is it?
If you take the bulb out or the bulb blows, the ECU backs all the timing out of the engine (limp home mode) as a kind of a fail safe device, (can't warn driver something is wrong so all anchors out the window approach )
I've had one in before like that, ok no probs, clocks out and change the bulb......(later models have an LED soldered to the circuit board and not a bulb) oh wait, someone's smashed it out with a screw driver. That's f***ed it then. New clocks for that customer :-/ feckin eejits

mine is the earlier model 94/95 2000 turbo, checked the buld and no sign of tape. car drives fine no limp mode. very odd cant get my head round it. it just wont turn on. bloody thing

yeah it def should come on. should stay on when keys are turned to first or second spot and comes on and goes off when engine running.

might be the idle stabilising valve mine does that too. and to check the bulb is still in, take out the dials/clocks. 4 screws to remove plastic surrounding and 4 for the dials/clocks, ur have to tilt steering wheel to lowest place to get dials/clocks out and unplug wiring from them. not much room either.engine light is on the right of the dials/clocks, that's for a classic

Ahh in that case I can't confirm the ECU going into safe mode then as I don't get to tune them that often.
I can however confirm this IS the case with new age models (01 onward)

If you remove the bulb or the circuit is broken then it will go to 0.
Not stupidly slow, just slower

hmm now im wondering if this could be why im dissapointed with the performance ??
would limp mode not kill the revs over 4-5k ?it revs up smoothly just feels very sluggish to me

If all it does is remove the ability to "read" from the low det map then no, no reason it should kill the revs any differently than normal.
As I say, before scratching your head over it all, get the AM checked, less than a minutes work to plug the software into the OBD socket and read it, shouldn't cost much if at all.

I've been down to my garage to pick my car up. The mechanic said that there was no bulb.
He said that he can check if there is any fault codes using a diagnostic thing. But at the moment is busy so will take it in asap. He said that the car was runnin perfectly fine and it could be a simple thing. Probably due to the exhaust being replaced.
If that the case how can I resolve the problem is it a simple case of resetting the ecu. But I am going to get the check done as peace of mind lol

you can do the check urself. look online for the subaru fault codes and it shows you how to do it. under the dash on the drivers side there is 2 sets of leads unplugged a black pair and a green pair. ill try and find the instructions for ya. if i cant ill write them all down on here

Oh and if you take the clocks out to check the bulbs, Take the front clear plastic cover off and peel the black facia back (Be careful not to damage the needles)and check the hole where the light shines through for the bulb, As i know someone who`s clocks had been filled with paper to avoid CEL lights, Probably done to decieve the new owner!!!

its 01 bugeye mate .cheers for advise
the guy did pretty much say the same as you today ,i dont know what the codes were ,he said that one would most likely need replacing (the cam one i think 160 quid and that the other two would hopefully just need cleaning etc ,hopefully hes genuine ,im guessing so as he could have just told me it needed all 3 outright .
is there any logical reason that the cel might not work other than someone tampering with it ?
